seafoam.... now hesitation, air fuel and misfire code
Hi,
I put seafoam in my crankcase, gas tank, and poured it in my intake down my MAF housing. Now i am getting codes for air fuel ratio, mulitiple misfire and the it flashes at high rpms.
The car also cannot rev above 5k rpms. It starts really hesitate around 4k rpms.
Did i mess up the MAF, foul some plugs, blew my motor, or is the normal for seafoam after use????

not normal (although last time I used that stuff was on my gen4 z28).
I would siphon out gas, drain oil, refill both. ensure all intake and vaccuum connections are tight. reset all codes and try again.

Putting seafoam in the car was a mistake anyway, unless your car has a boatload of miles and hasn't been treated very well, you don't need it.

The only cleaner I use is Techron. I use it a couple of times a year and only mixed in the gas. I think you over did it on the seaform. It sounds like your MAF is fouled as well.

Hello from C5-world haha. I saw ur post while browsing and thought i'd help a little.
I've been using Seafoam for years including my last two cars. a 1997 saleen and a 2001 honda s2000. Haven't needed to on my C5.
Did you pour seafoam before or aft the MAF? If on air filter side of the MAF then I'm pretty positive your MAF is fubar. Doing the crankcase and the gas is fine. If you did the MAF on the air filter side, then I'd suggest you change out the MAF first. If it was after the MAF on the intake side, change out your plugs. Heck, do both, never hurts. You definitely don't have a blown motor.

I've used it for 30 years on my boats, snowmobiles, motorhome, and cars. But only in the gas tank.
I have NEVER had any fuel related problems in anything using it and when the carbs come apart on my toys, no varnish.
Its possible your car OD'd on it with so much seafoam in it at one time.
Good luck.

Sta-bil is the one, if you really feel the need. Modern gas is pretty well formulated to not need stabilizers unless the thing is going to sit for 6 months or more. If you feel the need, just follow the directions and put some in with a fresh tank and drive it around for a few days before you store it.

I dont believe seafoam has this octane lowering effect.

I figure any gas that has sat for some time has diminished effectiveness. The point is that if you add fresh gas in the spring, you should be good.

The only cleaner or additive I would ever use is Techtron. I use Stabil in the winter when I store the car.
