I predict the end of the Z06 and the ZR1 by the 2012 model. All Corvettes will have the current "wide-body". Also, Corvettes will have a new engine, this time a 5.5 liter with 400-450 hp. The Feds' rules are going to kill the large displacement engines. -Clark

I tend to agree. In speaking with my dealer, he indicated that "narrow" body and Z06 sales have all but dried up since the advent of the GS.

I'll start one. I think the Z06 and ZR1 are on the endangered list. Both of them are stone cold in the sales department right now. I'd guess one won't survive.
Other changes???? There was a strong rumor (from pretty good sources) that the C6 would get a new dash for 2010. The economy probably killed that. The problem now is that the C6 is coming to the end of its run. I find it hard to believe they will incorporate any changes that have much development and tooling cost if there is only one or two years left in the run.
The other possibility is that they could decide to do what they did with the C4. They could extend the run another 3-4 years and make more significant changes such as the interior.

Good post.
One issue that could confuse the situation is that the Corvette group may be getting mixed signals from upper management. They may not know from one day to the next, what the real timetable will be. If so, then we could have the C6 for another 3-5 years with only minimal changes.
Anyone who hasn't done so, should read "All Corvettes Are Red", about the protracted development of the C5.

"In honor of jpee"
Long-lead times doing development (ex. C3), skipped years (ex. C4), late intros for models (ex. C3, C4, C5) are all nothing new for the Corvette, which means nothing new for GM.
Personally, I think extending the run with more improvements of significance would be a very good thing to do. (the C4 changed dramatically in '92 to the LT1 engine; the C3 from LT-1s and 330+ hp to the slugs; the C2 got disc brakes in '65, etc.)
It's arguable, and not everyone will agree, but I do think that some of the best models, all sorted out and very well equipped with new "stuff" comes at the end of a generation or model run. This is true, I believe, for the Corvette generations.
I would welcome it, but not necessarily the demise of either of the Z's. After all, we've already lost one great Z....................................... ....................................

I say they come out with a Stingray model. What form that would take would be anybodies guess but since they have three performance orientated models already in the ZR1, Z06, and GS a Stingray could be nostalgic / road trip / cruiser model.
