Default C6 ash tray switches (pics)

I have a b&b fusion exhaust on the way and have been thinking of how I want to mount the switch to control system. I decided that the best spot would be a switch panel in the ashtray. It provides a stealth spot for the switch out of the way, makes the space useful since I have never used it for anything else, and adds a certain cool factor to the car. After searching for a while and coming up with nothing I liked I decided to make my own.

First, I hollowed out the ashtray and the holder behind it to make room for wires. I then cut a piece of plastic and with a dremel and shaped it to fit inside the ashtray. Drilled two holes for switches. I used plastic cement to hold it in place and hope that combined with a snug fit stands the test of time. I did a test fit it and the door functions normal and I am very happy with that. I am going to caulk the space between the switch panel and ashtray, smooth it out, and shoot it with some black dashboard paint to give it a finished look.

Here are some pics of the steps:

Now all I need is my exhaust to wire it up!!

and figure out what to use the second switch for....

Nice job. There have been several discussions over the years about what to do with that space and how to put switches in there.

I put the 3 switches (POD) from Nitrous Outlet on the left and an Autometer Nitrous phantom guage where the cig lighter used to reside.

Door closes......stealth look.......door opens, switches and guage illuminated.....wicked look.

Amount of work to get it to that point.....indescribable.

Nice bit of DIY Engineering.

You could use the 2nd switch to toggle Ray Kawal's OEM Nav mod that lets you enter info while you're moving.

Nice set up! I found this (probably your picture) during a forum search and was headed that way but did not want to loose the power plug... funny enough this morning on my way to work the invisord popped out on a bump so the V1 lost power... I had the power cord in the glove box and was able to plug it in... alot easier than trying to reinstall the invisicord on the highway..lol

for your second switch, you could put a line lock switch there if you track your car. Thanks for sharing. I have been wanting to do something like what you did.
