I'm with the others - you've got a split in a CV boot. You'll definitely want to get that fixed before you put many miles on it. Otherwise you'll run an axle bearing dry and burn it up.

I don't have experience with the C6 specifically, but in general CV grease is unmistakable - thick, hard to wipe off, and almost impervious to soap and water.

Also, every state has headlight height laws. Car manufacturers can't go below or above a certain height when designing a car. Look at how much wheel gap most cars in the US have.

CV boot is the only place you are going to get that kind of grease on your rim. The grease fittings on the Z51 wouldn't splatter onto your rims if overgreased. A spinning broken CV boot will throw it everywhere.

Exactly. The car is parked until I get back to the states in April. The cv boot will be the first thing I get looked at when I get back. Thanks everyone for their input.
