Default C6 Corvette Preferred Fuel

Hi,

What fuels are best used for the LS3 engine in the 2008 Corvette with the Z51 performance package?

High Octane 94 from Sunoco?

Any premium 91 or higher from a Top Tier gas station,I recommend Shell V-Power.

Default Hi-Octane fuel

If you're lucky enough to live in an area with 94 octane fuel available, use it. The higher the octane, the slower the fuel burns which help keep deposits from building in the combustion chamber.

From my 2005 owner's manual:

"Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane of 91 or higher for best performance. You may also use middle grade or regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but your vehicle’s acceleration may be slightly reduced. If the octane is less than 87, you may get a heavy knocking noise when you drive. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you might damage your engine."

You have a high performance car...use Premium fuel.

I think those cars with the Z51 Performance package have to have more octane than normal cars.

Show us by quoting a page in an owner's manual that says that.

I don't think so. I've got electronic copies of 7 years of C6 owner's manuals and I've not seen that in any of them. The Z51 option doesn't do a thing to the engine to cause it to need higher octane fuel.

From the 2008 manual...

Use of the recommended fuel is an important part of the
proper maintenance of your vehicle. To help keep the
engine clean and maintain optimum vehicle
performance, we recommend the use of gasoline
advertised as TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.
The 8th digit of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
shows the code letter or number that identifies your
vehicle’s engine. The VIN is at the top left of the
instrument panel. See Vehicle Identification Number
(VIN) on page 5-95.

If your vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code W),
use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted
octane rating of 91 or higher. You can also use regular
unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but
your vehicle’s acceleration could be slightly reduced,
and you might notice a slight audible knocking
noise, commonly referred to as spark knock. If the
octane is less than 87, you might notice a heavy
knocking noise when you drive. If this occurs, use a
gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as
possible. Otherwise, you could damage the engine. If
you are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and
you hear heavy knocking, the engine needs service.

He was making fun of the addage that it had Z51, as this wont make a difference in what fuel you need.

NO!!! In fact, I think you need to use aviation gas (over 100 octane) for Z51 equipped cars. And for a ZR1 - nuclear energy.

Just run the highest octane pump gas you can find that is a Top Tier gas. If you can find it, run ethanol free gas. Ethanol free gas won't give you any more power, or any less power, but it will improve your gas mileage.
