I can give you the gearing.

1st 2.97
2nd 2.07
3rd 1.43
4th 1.0
5th .71
6th .57
Rev. 3.28
All manuals came with 3.42 differential gears.
The advantage of the manual Z51 gears is coming off the line and out of turns with a higher numerical total gear ratio. Personally, I prefer the Z51 gearing along with the rest of the option. However when racing, the bigger advantage goes to the more experienced driver.

If you're above 140mph, I think that Z51 5th ratio @ .81 will give you more acceleration than the standard coupe can muster.
For instance; my LS1 T/A had a 0.74 5th gear, and she was still pulling at 155mph with an engine that didn't have the torque of the LS3.

I'm not sure I'd agree with the Z51 not doing as well at top end.

Depends how you view it. The 2008-9, Z51, manual, NPP was able to achieve 190 mph in 5th gear at 6000 rpm on GM's closed circuit test track. This was partly due to the .71 5th gear in the Z51 manual transmission. But we are probably not going to see those speeds, right?

As far as top speed, both transmissions will aero out before you RPM out in 5th gear.
Z51 trans will see 190 MPH at 5820 RPM.
Non Z51 trans will see 190 MPH at 6060 RPM.
Both well below the rev limiter so it depends at which RPM the horsepower starts dropping off and the engine can't overcome the aero drag. The LS3 hits max horsepower at 5900 RPM. Close call on which is better.

I have never tracked my 08 coupe, manual, Z51, NPP, 35k miles and enjoy the Z51 package every time I drive it. I disagree with those who say the Z51 package is for people who want to track the car. If that was true, then the Z06 and ZR1 are also for those who track their cars. The Z51 package is for those who enjoy a handling package that enhances the corvette's ability. The Z06 takes it to another level and so does the ZR1. I would not own a vette without it!
