How many miles is too many?

I avoid cars rarely driven like I avoid high mileage ones. I was lucky to find a garage kept weekend driver with all the records driven only 8K in two years. Cars that sit for long periods of time between driving just don't do well in the long run IMO for various reasons. You don't use it you loose it in a nutshell. Good luck with the search.

As a 2008 C6 owner with over 120K - yes that's 120,000 miles - my cars drives like when I first bought it with 25K miles. I have never had any problems and have only done the minimal scheduled maintenance (plus one tire pressure sensor replaced). I do drive mostly highway miles and am still surprised that I have not had to have the brake pads changed yet. I was originally thinking of trading it in at around 200K but now I'm leaning more to just keeping it until it's not worth it or becomes unreliable.
IMHO I would look for a used car that still has some of the warranty left just so you can be more sure that if something goes wrong the dealer will fix it. These are great cars but as I'm sure you've read on this forum that there are some lemons out there.
Good luck with your purchase.

I also like to avoid cars with super low miles.

Buy a 2008 + with some of the 3/36 warranty left. Then you can extend the warranty with the purchase of a GMPP warranty. So to answer your question, buy an '08 + with less than 36K on it. Do your homework so you know why you should get a '08 or newer.

Guess another thing to throw into the mix in interior condition. How's the interior of the 85K mi car look, compared to 20K mi car. This can be a really big deal.

The interior of my 100K '07 looks like the day it was new with 0 miles but allowing for a wrinkle in the driver's seat bottom only. The interior of my 341K '99, looks pretty good. I've repaired the driver's seat skin twice over the years. The rocker panel on the inside has scuff marks on it which is why the '07 has a rocker cover on it. Overall, they are holding up very well indeed.

personally, I don't think there is any limit as to miles. but there is a more or less prevailing philosophy on here that makes a lot of sense: buy the best condition, newest model year, lowest mile car that you can comfortably afford. many will substitute options for one of the above. some will take a higher mileage car because it's newer. but I still think the general philosophy works best.
now if you tell us there's a great 85K miles '08 for $25K, and a 25K mile '07 for $30K, I might say get the '07.

My '08 is a daily driver with just under 49K miles with no issues.

I am looking at an 07 (Orange) today with 100,000 for $14,000. Great price and miles are high but about what I want to pay for a 2007. There is a 2007 (Red) with 36,000 for $22,000. Not sure lower miles worth $8000. Any thoughts

I guess it depend on what you want out of the car? Is it going to be a weekend fun toy or a daily driver? Are you going to keep it a long time? Drive it a few years and upgrade? Modify it?
I think the general consensus of the forum is to buy the newest, lowest miles, closest to the way you want it equipped, in the color you want, car you can find in your price range. I really like orange, but there were none to be found when I bought my '07 a few years ago... Good Luck!
Also.. Way to save/recycle electrons and dig up an old thread... much better than starting a new one!!!! I think it's funny to watch and seen who responds to the OP's question before they realize that the question was asked almost 8 years ago....!!!

I just bought my 2006 triple black convertible A6 this past August with 45,700 on the odometer. Ordinarily, I would have wanted a lower mile car, but the overall condition told me someone loved this thing. No rock chips paint is pristine, interior is gorgeous and a clean engine bay. That said, I just replaced the harmonic balancer, two serpentine belts and had a 4 wheel alignment done under the used car warranty. I was warned that the crank pulleys are a weak point. But still love it. Current mileage, 46, 350
Good luck,
Bob

you are overthinking this. Price and miles have a direct correlation. If you want year XX Vette with low miles, expect to pay more, maybe a lot more. If you can accept higher miles, you can likely find a newer model. You already know what you can pay, so get the best condition Vette available for that money. I will also add, if this is your first Vette, try to get the kind of deal that you won't get hurt on if you have to flip it soon for another. First timers are famous for "Gee, I wish I would have seen that (or known that was available) before I bought this car."
