Default OnStar flashes carphone # on caller ID?

OnStar flashes my carphone number to caller ID of everyone I call. Thus allowing anyone I call to obtain my OnStar phone number and call me back anytime. I want my Onstar calls to flash " # unavailable" or "# unknown" on caller ID of those I call. OnStar tells me that this can't be done and all OnStar callers have their carphone number published to everyone they call.
Seems obsurd that everyone you call on OnStar can then call you in your car and disturb you anytime. Don't want to receive calls in car, just make them without carphone # being published.
Flashing "# unknown" is a basic function of all cell phones. Is OnStar really this technologically inept?
Anyone know how to remedy problem? Please help. Thanks.

The nerve of Onstar

FYI - If you are not driving or not close enough for the FOB to engage, the caller will not be able to complete the call. Try calling your car when you're not in it and see what you get.

Some (usually older people) feel that being accessible infringes on their privacy or they just don't want to be bothered. But a growing majority of cell phone users & other mobile devices see this accessibility as the purpose for having the device.

Your phone, your right IMO. Interesting that Onstar can't (or won't) block your number. Gee, ya think they want people to call you and use up your minutes?

Onstar is the intermediary between you and whatever tower your on with whatever the phone company....this is why rates are higher because anywhere you go it has to connect to whomever's tower in your current location. Network providers are different in (different) areas, so what works in one location not necessarily works in another. And given that your in a automobile moving between different providers is where the challenge comes in. Why not just hook your phone via bluetooth and that way your own cell company will not display your number (provided you have that service). With mine, my name is blocked I believe but phone company tells me they cannot block my cell number.

Same here using my cell phone, I just tag the number calling me an if I do not want it calling me I set the ring tone 2 none and name it "I would really rather not". I use my cell for business & pleasure. Donotknow if helps, just a thought.

Think Onstar is hooked up with Verizon.

Let me get this right... It's quite okay for you to call whomever/whenever but it's not okay for them to call you.

I have only a few pet peeves with phone calls. One is when folks block their digits; two is when they don't leave a message. I do not answer or repond to these people.

Peace, out.

As I understand, the analog Onstar phones in the '05's would display the called ID of an incoming call but when they switched everything out to the digital onstar system, that function went away. No clue why as I would think handling the information digitally would be a lot easier. As for blocking the telephone number going out, there wasn't anything in the onstar manual.

Don't answer the phone.

I respect your desire for privacy but I never considered having my OnStar number displayed to be a problem. I don't accept calls from "unknown" sources and I wouldn't expect anyone I call to do the same. If you can't block your OnStar number from being displayed perhaps the system could forward incoming calls elsewhere (not quite a solution though). I'd ask OnStar about this....maybe there's a reason.

Thanks for suggestions & ideas. When making calls to business clients from my vette, I want them to call me back on my normal business line, not my OnStar car phone.
OnStar still insists I cannot block my number on outgoing calls. Goodbye OnStar.
