Default Thoughts on Quick Release Front License Plate Bracket

So for over 5 years I got away with just putting my front license plate in my lower right hand corner of my window attached via some clear suction cups. Remarkably I never got any grief for it from the local police.

Now that I have my new GS I have been looking at all the options out there for front license plate brackets and I am curious if anyone has tried the one advertised by West Coast Corvette that has a quick release. Handy if you don't want it on for car shows, detailing, etc. It can be seen here:

http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-1...and-sport.aspx

The unit from Top Flight reproductions also looks good - however looks to be a more permanent solution.

I hate to have a front plate on my baby at all - but I thought I would gather some opinions on others who may have used these two particular products, or if there is something else out there that might work with the GS.

Of course I may just keep using my trusty suction cups and just play the odds.

Thanks everyone.

I purchased the Top Flight product thru MacMulkin when I picked up my 2011 GS Vert in December. I also purchased a GM rear painted license plate frame and installed it on the front.

I don't like the front plate either, but this seemed like the least invasive solution. Where is the license plate now, in the trunk, where it is supposed to be!!!

The quick release front license plate holder works great. I have had one on my car for a year and it has held up well, so far. I remove it quite often to wipe or wax the front of the car.

For 139 bucks?? Not in this lifetime.I have one I bought for 49 bucks that mounts under the bumper and can be pulled up as needed or left down.I refuse to pay that outrageous Corvette TAX on these items,AND THEY BLOCK airflow to boot.

Thanks for the thread, I've been wondering about this since picking up my GS. I don't like the Corvette tax either but I also don't like drilling holes or sticking something to painted surfaces. Having said that it looks like I'll have to stop by WCC's after work one day this week.

You may want to check and verify that the WCC bracket is able to pass through the GS grille like it does with the regular C6 coupe.

UP... DOWN... There is/was a vendor on here who's got them.If not,try that auction site. This was on my 05 and and I have one for my current 08,just not installed yet. There is also a motorized version for about the same price as that other one on here you were asking about. It's stable at speed,no issues at all.

I have had the Top Flight for 15 months. I like it so much I haven't taken it off once.

Another "Not in this lifetime" guy here. Are you kidding me, $149 up to $175 for a front license plate bracket?! I fabricated my own removeable LPB and had it powder coated the same color as my car.

Ex-actly!

I went with the Top Flight too. I like the way it conforms to the shape of the bumper and with the frame looks as much as it can like GM intended it to be there. IMO. It's my "just-in-case" insurance and is kept in the trunk.

According to the mounting instructions: "Insert frame through the lower air dam holes and into the mount bracket until it snaps in place."

So it looks like the GS/Z06 model doesn't go through the grill at all but through the air dam.

Well I appreciate all the opinions and comments so far. Definitely gives me something to think about. I might just stick with my $2.50 suction cups and keep it in the front window.

I think this is the more economical one that flips down. http://www.corvetteparts.com/details/gid/003636.htm

I haven't seen mention of this fitting on a Z06 or GS. It appears to mount under the front bumper and it looks like the splitter would be in the way.

Yes,that's it.They even show the power one available.Byron, there is room for it under there no matter what you have barring any extended airdam. If the car is stock, there's room.It doesn't go all the way back to the OEM dam. With a little modding,it can be mounted in the center as well, which a guy did on here a while back.I forget who though.OP,for about 30 bucks, the museum store sells one that screws right into the OEM air dam..Prtially visible but one would need to bend down to see it.
