Default Disconnecting fuel line to remover coil cover???

I had to remove the coil covers the other day and was wondering if disconnecting the fuel inne at the fire wall would be ok to make it easier to get the cover off OR is it too dangerous or difficult.

I was trying to use a fuel line removal tool to disconnect mine, but it was pretty difficult on my car. I ended up removing the cover without disconnecting.

You can remove it at either spot. I find the cheapo plastic ones that come in the multipacks to work really well.

That cover specificly has a slot in it so you don't have to remove the fuel line. Why make the job more difficult than it has to be?

Agreed - however if you have painted fuel rail covers sliding the braided hose through the split or spreading the split wide enough to allow the hose to pass by will likely crack the paint or scratch the paint.

I thought about that as well. If the paint has a flex agent in it, it should no crack unless you do extreme twisting. Perhaps putting a small towel on each side of the upper surface and being careful how you wiggle it off would work.

It is a PITA to get off and I cut some plastic off before I put it back on. If it comes off again it will be in a box for the next owner. I can't see any use for the covers.

This. And put a small towel around the opening to prevent the line from scratching the surface of the FRC.

As Don said the key is removing it when its warm as it will be much more flexible. You can use a hair dryer other wise.

much easier to pull fuel line. buy the right size cheap fuel line tool, the guy at the counter will know the size, squeeze HARD on the coupling on the drivers side, an pull them apart. Might have to wiggle a lot. P S pull the fuse on the fuel pump before you start on all this. fuse in in the box on passenger side of engine compartment, coupling snaps right back into place, push HARD together should hear a click. Done!

If you pull the cover off w/o disconnecting the fuel line, it is much easier to twist when warm (as has been said), and I use plastic wrap on the fuel line (warm, not hot) to keep any inadvertent scratching from happening.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm 75 and my hands aren't as strong as they use to be and twisting it is very difficult for me. I did get it off and back on but had to take a nap afterward. Removing the fuel line looks a lot easier for me.
Thanks to all,
G

Hey Gordo, I bought these little gems at HF to assist in grabbing the heat shields and they worked great, I am your age and grabbing the heat shields with any kind of grip was difficult. Thought you might like them
