Even clang aside I went into a Houston Dealer for a Grandsport last night. They did not know trim levels or the GM was offering Driving schools as incentive if purchased by end of Feb. To me it is on the website and a great additional selling point for those buyers that dont know. With it being 2011 and the age of the internet they need to step up their own knowledge as well.

Once Corvette was mentioned he probably had "We only sell them at MSRP" in his mind. I didn't know what SSB was either at first so I can't blame that one. I guess the other new color is IO.

Wish there was a way to avoid the dealer all together and just order what I want from GM at dealer buyer prices and take delivery at BG.

When I was shopping around I looked at one coupe at a used lot. The nice saleslady sitting beside me during the test drive pointed at the A/C button (of course with the pic of the snowflake) and said "Oh, this car has a snow package?"

Needless to say she didn't make the sale...

As I've pointed out here a number of times, the term "A6" to denote the 6-speed automatic transmission (RPO MX0) is not a GM term; it was coined on this forum. Mention the term "A6" to car people and it refers to a model of Audi, just like "M6" is a BMW.

OK Guys,Let me take up for one of my own. I sell Chevys. Please note that many sales people rarely sell a Vette. Indeed if they depended on it to feed their family they would be homeless. Vettes dont pay the bills unless you happen to be at Kerbeck or McCulken or another big Vette dealer or you happen to be an owner as I am. That same salesman probably could have told you anything you wanted to know about a Silverado, Malibu,HHR or Impala because these models DO pay the bills. The average sales guy at a Chevy dealership may sell one Vette a year. So give em a break. Most people who sell Chevys seldom see a Vette. We are the largest Chevy deaLER IN aLABAMA AND Right now I have three available. We dont even stock convertibles because we sell so few. Most Chevy sales people also never heard of the Corvette Forum either. It is just about the popularity of what pays the bills. PS. Contact me if you need a Vette. We are part of 147 dealerships nationwide.

Sorry, but that simply doesn't cut it IMO. Anyone who's in sales needs to know their products, period. With all of the time the typical car salesperson has to stand around doing nothing, there's no good reason to not read up and become well-versed on what they're selling.

You must be kidding. The bills ok, the bills!Lets say you make 75K as a salesperson. Lets also say 73K of it is from other than Corvette. You gonna tell me you are going to focus on Corvette while your main product from which you make your living is going to suffer? I think notTry to get past the love you have for the Vette and look at this realistically. If you were selling motorcycle lines of Honda,Suzuki,Yamaha and Harley and Harley accounted for 1% of your gross profit are you really going to focus on Harley at the expense of your livelihood? No! Your boss would fire you first. Besides, Vette owners are the easiest to deal with because the only question is price. A Vette owner already knows everything about the car and yes probably knowns more than the salesperson. I am just trying to get you to look at it from a practical profitable point of view rather than an emotional one.

I never said anything about letting anything suffer. I said "Know your product." That means all of your product. There are many, MANY automotive salespeople who know very little about the vehicles they sell - that's a fact. There's no excuse for it and I will never purchase from such an individual. I stand behind my original comment.

Well unless you are forum junkie you won't know tons of abbreviatis. I know an older guy who knows everything there is about vette but he wouldn't have a clue if you start talking to him using internet slang.

Yeah, I was recently at a dealer looking at a ZR1 and I mentioned price, options, recent GM deals etc I learned on the forum and his response was "I'd have to make that a full time job!" as he laughed about his lack of knowledge. Good luck selling me a $100K Chevy, big guy. That knowledge IS your job. In contrast, the salesman at Cadillac that sold us my wife's CTS knew the car inside and out. I'll stick with forum dealers, thank you.

As we've seen, there are some big differences between internet slang and RPO codes!

Don't know what you do for a living but I guarranty there is someone out there that could find holes in your professional knowledge. Mack is 100% correct. Go to a Ford dealership and ask about a Shelby GT500, a dodge dealer and ask about a Viper, etc. I'm sure they all have heard of the cars and probably seen one sold from their showroom but to expect them to be up to snuff on every detail is expecting alot. Corvettes are a niche market. GM has only sold more than 40k in a year eight times. Sales are down more than 75% since 2007. GM sold more units of several models last November than they sold Corvettes all year. That being said. Most people in sales don't know squat about any car they sell so its all moot. And like someone posted earlier, most buyers don't know much either.
