I posted earlier about a poor sales experience with a local Chevy dealer. I just placed an order with Forum sponsor Bill Stasek Chevy in Wheeling, IL. Bob Foley is the corvette manager. He knwos exactly what he's doing, knows the product, and will match other forum sponsor's deals. It was a pleasure making the deal on my 2011 ZR1 last night.

ONE, if they're lucky and have earned an allocation. When we get one, EVERY salesperson gets hands-one training AND on-line manufacturer training on it, and can discuss and deliver the car flawlessly.

We also have a BMW franchise. How many M5's, M6's and X6's do you think our guys sell a year? One... two... maybe none. They make their living selling 1-series, 3-series, X3's and X5's. But I can quarantee you every one them can sell and deliver an M like they do it every day. We train constantly, and do mock deliveries and walk-arounds all the time. We believe that since you don't get very many opportunities to sell 100k cars, you'd better get it right when someone walks in or calls up asking about one.

A clueless salesperson is a reflection of management. If an SP doesn't know what they are talking about, I don't believe management cares all that much what they know or don't know.
Very well-stated. I like the way you think.

WHY????????????????????????????????????? ?

Sorry OP, not to pick on you but this makes NO sense. We have a large number of Forum Dealers who will offer you the best pricing in the land and HASSLE FREE shopping.

I have owned 3 Corvettes since 2004 and now about to buy my 4th (keeping my C5 Z06 and adding a '11 Grandsport - and I'm a total PIA buyer as I want a specific GS but I also want the current incentives and driving school but Tim at Boardwalk goes overboarded in dealing with me). I know more about Corvettes then 99% of the dealers out there but even I didn't understand your email. I had no clue as to SSB (I know the color but not the name you gave for it)...I kept thinking wasn't SSB a former C5 code....

You tired to write in "insider" Corvette code but with all respect...as pointed out above you didn't. A6 is not an ordering code for the automatic transmission. There is a great post above (about page 2) in which an example of your order in proper codes should be written.

Just copy that order format and email it off to the Forum Dealer of your choice and you could have a Corvette on Order and in line for assembly by Monday morning. Be very careful about dealaying your order too far into the spring. There are allocation and order date cut-offs as they begin to prepare for model year change over.

I'm sorry but what you want and desire is sooooooo simple. The individual making it difficult is ***. Now get out there and order and enjoy that new C6!!!!

Here is the response:

After reviewing your email I have a couple questions. First what is ssb and A6? What options are you looking for as well? museum delivery and Bowling Green is that where you live?Lastly are you taking care of the transporting cost?If you can contact me back and let me know the answers to the questions I would appreciate it. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

My take on the sales personal of a typical domestic dealership:
2 or 3 people who have been there for several years, and through repeat customers and referrals make half-way decent money.
1 or 2 relatives of the owner(son, daughter, niece, nephew, etc.), who get get thrown enough "house deals" to survive.
The rest usually consists of transients, rookies, newly laid-off professionals, and other people who are learning that it's about impossible to make a decent living as a car salesman anymore.
Ask me how I know.

Amaising is how ignorant some Corvette owners are of their own car.
