Looking back at this thread it seems that most posters had this problem with the LS2 C6 (also the C5, apparently). I have an LS3 auto C6 (2008) and the balancer seems ok at 80k, but I'm monitoring it. I did research the parts to see if GM has done anything about their failing balancers and noticed that the part number changed when the model/engine did:
12560115 = 97-04 C5
12675715 = 05-07 C6 LS2
12674582 = 08-13 C6 LS3
12687726 = 14-19 C7
Does anyone in the business know if these are in fact the exact same part with different numbers, or did they change the part from LS2 to LS3? If so, it might explain why the LS3 seems to suffer fewer problems.
