A4 vs A6 trans?
Curious as to what, if any, the performance differences are between the 2005s w/the A4 & the 2006s w/the A6.
Also, is one trans beefier than the other?
I've been keeping my search to 2006s b/c of the trans thing, but if the A4 is just as good then I may as well look at 2005s too.

When looking to buy my Corvette, I drove both the A4 and A6. The A6 seemed unsure of what gear it wanted to be in. It also seemed a bit too smooth for my taste.
I decided on the A4. The couple of tuners I was talking to at the time also advised to choose the A4 because there was more experience with performance gains. I also liked the fact it was preferred at the drag track.
When I eventually put in a built A4 trans, I really liked the tune possibilities. My A4 trans is tuned for long pulls and I drive it like a stick at the track.

What are my options for Tuning my A4? I just want longer time between shifts so I can hear my sweet exhaust. I may also want to reset it back to stock if my wife wants to borrow the car for the day.
Can I get a tuner device?

I love my '05 A4, but I would tell you to go test drive an '08+ as well. When I was shopping, I narrowed it down to the following choices:
'05 A4, fully loaded (non-performance options), 2.5k miles
'08 A6, no options, ~30.0k miles
They were essentially the same price, but I went with the heads up display and basically zero miles. I will admit, however, that driving the LS3 was a completely different pony and the performance results on the forum prove that. Good luck in your search and make sure you buy before summer hits and everyone else wants one too!

You did notice that an A6 is in first place, ahead of the M6s, right?
And that there are 4 A6s in the top 11?

It all depends on what your going to do with the car. The A6 can not hold up to the power levels that the A4 can, due to the fact that there are more upgrades for the A4.

The A4 is a bullet proof transmission which came from the truck division, and course less gears but can take the abuse
It is all about the application

Even though I have an A6 (and I do love it) that has performed so well for me, if I were looking at a used C6 right now I would likely seek a 2005 A4. simply because once modified for drag racing it might still be (for now at least) the better choice over the A6.
