Default What do you think of mobile paint repair?

I bought my car with 12k on it. Now pushing 15k, I am finding myself getting a little picky about any imperfections. A high-end detailer recommended a mobile paint repair company and I am considering it. This is what I am looking at geting fixed.
Photo 1 - this is where some idiot keyed me

Photo 2 - Passenger side bumper - I think I might need new fasteners for the black piece (air dam?) under the passenger side of the bumper. Funny, I never noticed it before the other day when I discovered some duct tape on the inner wheelwell.

Photo 3 - Scratch on drivers side bumper

Photo 4/5 - Scratch on passenger side rocker panel

Photo 6 - Mirror appears to be faded a little

Am I being too picky?

No personal experience...I've heard they "can do" a nice job. Like most things it depends a lot on the experience and ability of the person doing the work. Most of your issues look pretty severe though, I don't know if they can do anything. But if your detailer recommends it may be worth a try on one of the spots just to see what happens. Good luck. Please let us know what happens if you try it.

My kid worked for one last year, I made him quit, they took every short cut know to man! I taught him better than that. Take it to a reputable body shop! Some things shouldn't be done in a parking lot, paint work is one of them!

Paint work like you need should be done at a body shop to make it look like new

I think it would depend on the ability of the person doing it. I had a guy repair my GS wheel on the car and did a nice job for $85. Never had body paint done though. Small nicks maybe but those larger ones - I don't know.

Auto paint should not be done in a parking lot. That's why they make spray booths.

I work for a dealership that used to use one of those guys for quick touch ups on used cars. Might as well use a roller to paint the car.

I've always heard (from dealerships) that even if the repair is a good one, the technique results in a very limited duration fix, maybe 2 years tops, then the repair wears away and does not look good anymore.

I am leaning away from the mobile paint. My wife is taking it to two body shops later this week for estimates.....Dimmitt Chevy in Clearwater, FL and another local shop that did some work on my Wrangler when a lady backed into me.......though this posting does make mobile paint look pretty good http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...pair-pics.html

Got a bud with a dully diesel truck. He has scratched deeply both rear fenders and a left front fender. He had the local mobile paint guy, whom had great references fix his on three or four separate times. Can't tell it. Even a really deep scrap in one rear dually fender.

My wife went to the first repair place today and they told her that they only handle collision. They recommended a place down the street who offered to fix my issues (along with polishing the headlights , window tint, and fixing a small tear in the seat) for the sum of $3,200. Can't you paint an entire car for that? I'm having her take it to Dimmitt on Monday for an estimate. Hope it is better or mobile paint will start to look a lot better. Any recommended shops in the area?

Whole car? $3200? NO! A correct whole car paint job includes removing as much as possible....hood, trunk, mirrors, lights, etc etc
