racers (and guys that do HPDEs) like open ended in-case you decide to go to a longer/stronger stud or just for inspection and what not.

It allows the air pressure to bleed out as you torque down the lug nuts. Prevents the top of the lug nut from blowing out.

I take my car to the track for HPDEs so I'm swapping between my race tires/rims often. Plus I'm always checking to make sure my lugs are tight.
They still look great IMHO. Hope this helps.
