How much to fix paint "spider"
I'm looking at an 05 DSOM vette. The previous owner backed into something and spidered the bumper as shown in the pics. What kind of bodywork would it take to fix this and roughly how much would it cost?
I'm trying to get him to fix it before purchasing but i am a little uneasy about the quality of the repair.
Thanks for any info!

I also have a DSOM and I also did something incredibly stupid...backed into my nephew's car parked in the driveway. The body shop did a great job on the rear fascia-bumper scrape. They did a complete re-paint and it turned out great. I even had them re paint the hood to take out a previous chip repair blemish.
So...if you go to a good high quality repair place and make sure they understand the challenge of matching DSOM, you'll be fine. I'd get an estimate first and then reduce the purchase price accordingly...it's not cheap.

There are more experienced body shop guys out there to price it for you...but I'll offer my $0.02 and it's worth every penny...
They're going to have to shoot the entire bumper cover. For good paint work in a good shop with quality materials, you can't get get a single panel shot for less than $400 these days. So I'd say the low end of that repair is probably $400.
There are some shops around here that do cheap "spot" repairs...but I don't see how you will ever be satisfied with that on a metallic color like DSOM.

I just had a new front bumper cover painted and installed on my Pontiac. That job was $1,000...including the $300 for the replacement bumper cover. So that number you quoted isn't out of line for a good shop. Quality paint materials are expensive and you are going to have some labor time wrapped up in that repair. The good news is that once it's done, it'll look like new.

Have been looking at having a similar repair (although not quite as much damage) made on the ZR1 and I concur with most everything above.
I would add that, removal of the bumper is key to a good prep/paint job and be sure to have the inside of the bumper checked for cracks. Also, repainting the entire bumper is not mandatory, but sanding and reclearing the entire bumper is highly recommended.
Here's a link to my thread on this with some good body guys reporting:

I would say if you pay $690 and it looks perfect that is a great price! Good luck with your transaction.
