Being in California your choices are limited. If you were in another state like Florida with no smog laws then I would probably say get the ls3 but since your in Cali you should probably just get a used Z06. They don't really resale for under $40k and are very fast stock.

My guess is if you could drive either of them worth a damn you wouldent think so. Anyone with the skill to drive any corvette near its limits will appreciate them. Its only the people who sit on the couch and read numbers in a magazine who will criticize them.

I had an 01 C5 Coupe heavily modded, I too was looking at the same thing as you... modded/blower LS3 base car or Z06..or even GS. I went with a Z06 and am very happy I did. I am still learning the car, as it is a lot of car

The harshness of the ride is purely subjective to that of the driver, everyone has a different "butt meter" I would not call the ride "harsh" more, stiff. Getting rid of the stock Runcrap tires tremendously improves the ride quality in the Z. Honestly though if you've had a highly modified Cobra, I bet you will think the Z is not that harsh of a ride.

It's interesting that you see some comments of guys with modified base C6 cars that are telling you to get the Z, and there are those that have had both, and still say Z06.

Anywhoo.. they are all great cars, GS, base C6/modded and Z06.

If you can, test drive each one, and maybe even find someone with a modded C6 and test drive it so you can compare. The Z06 is deceivingly fast, it has a great advantages in that it only weighs about 3200lbs give or take. I've seen Z06's beat cars with 100 more HP because of the weight advantage.

Good luck, either way you will be happy.

Buy a C6 Z over a E-Force LS3... Car has stronger parts from the get go and if you get tired of the stock power level a cam and exhaust swap alone will put you in the Mid 500's at the tires with NO problems at all. If you can afford the Z, I would recommend this over any type of F/I on a LS3, better car to start with.

Get a certified used Z and keep it stock. $8k will go by very quickly when trying to get a blower kit installed, tuned, etc with the proper fuel system.

Step 1 : You need more money

Step 2 : Test drive them all ... see what you like

Step 3 : return to step 1, your family comes first.

I also believe significant engine & drive train mods invalidate the warranty.

Yes I own a corvette, and no I dont need to call people names to make my point.

So first, lets see your racing and track resume, Id like to see your experience and qualifications driving corvettes at their limits. I assume you instruct at track and racing schools because 99% of participants cannot safely drive these cars at their limits without crashing.

Then Id like to see your lap times in your Z06 compared to the grand sports you have driven at its limits on the track. Since the GS is such a poser car, Id like to see how much faster you are in your Z06.

My guess is you have never been to the track, except to watch, and that you have never even driven a grand sport, much less driven one at anywhere near its limits. My guess is you are talking out of your a$$ because people that know how to drive dont go around dissing peoples cars. In fact a lot of them drive Miatas and RX7s and could drive circles around you at a closed course and wouldent even make you feel bad for your lack of skill.

first of all, I'm not personally dissing anyone's car......i'm just stating I don't like the GS from GM......and I have nothing to prove as far as driving skills, and neither do you......I just don't like the fact that they (GM) made the GS look so similar to the z06.......I just don't like the fact you were all over me for having my opinion of the GS........nothing personal towards any owners of GS's.......I blame GM
