$50 dollars to remove road noise/exhaust drone :)

Thanks for this post. I might try using the P&S although I do like the fact that Dynamat Extreme only requires one layer, with no worry of smell. But it's good to have a cheap alternative...
I did my dads old Ford Escape door panels with Dynamat and it made a pretty big difference in road noise. Once you do one door panel, you can do the knock test with your knuckles. It's a big difference. If you go knock on a Mercedes or other high end car and then a cheapo car, you will hear the difference. Thats why the expensive cars always sound quieter inside, they come from the factory with some insulation attached on the door panel. If you ever take a panel off a high end car, there's not much of it, but the very little they do at the factory works fine.
On another application, many years back, I actually did my pc case, inside and out with the Dynamat and it made a noticeable difference in the vibration from the fan noise. It wasn't as big of a difference as the car but it helped...

I read this thread and it gave me something to do today. Went out to Lowe's and bought 3 rolls. Overall I was pretty impressed with the results. I have the GHL's which are notorious for their drone. I knew right away as soon as I put in first and gave it gas that there would be no drone and I was right.
The interior is much quieter now and I don't have to worry about 1500-1700 rpms anymore Props to the OP. A good alternate indeed to Dynamat

I spent about 2 hours and didn't even get to finish the bottom. So far, I did the 2 storage boxes and 85% of the bottom. Haven't even done the fenders and side. I guess I'm slow.

What exactly is your suggestion. Have you done it? If so what resonators, what brand, pictures. Or maybe you're just saying something just to say it? Please be specific otherwise it takes up the blog space and it is hard to search later without going thru pages and pages.

One thing I did to compliment reducing road noise on my C5 was to add dampening to the outer wheel wells in the back. Got 6 one pound cans of spray on rubber undercoating for cars sold at the auto parts store. Took off both rear tires and masked off the wheel wells. Washed off the wheel wells with soap and water then after dry alcohol to further clean and take out moisture. Took a day to spray coat after coat of the black rubber undercoating so in the end I had 3 pounds per side of rubber dampening the outer wheel well fiberglass. Let the car stay outside for one night in its life. Made a nice difference in road noise.
As in this thread I did also cover the interior completely with a "Dynamat" analog.

So I just put on an NPP exhaust on my car and the drone is insane btwn 2-3000 RPM
Thinking about trying this mod.
I'm guessing once this is done there isn't really a way to reverse it and rip the material off of the trunk? I'm assuming once it sticks on the trunk's floor it can't be removed cleanly anymore?

Found this thread, ran to Lowes and did mine in under two hours with a buddy yesterday. Used three rolls and had enough left over to do behind the seats---you might as well while your at it!

Advanced
My current setup is Longtube headers, offroad 3" x-pipe and Borla Stingers.
It's loud and drones a LOT at 1500-1700 RPMs
I loved the sound but wanted to kill some of the drone.
I first tried the 3 piece Block IT setup from TKO which was nothing short of worthless and sold it off. The wife also wasn't impressed.
I've been reading a lot about a cheap alternative to sound insulation that can be picked up locally at Lowe's (local hardware store) called Peel and Seal. It sells for $15 a roll which is 6" x 25' and I picked up 3 rolls.
Total install time was 1.75 hours from starting to pull the carpet out to putting it all back in and shutting the hatch. Two rolls really would've accomplished covering the entire rear area but I used the third roll to double up on as much as I could, and I think it paid off.
The wife and I went for a test drive and it was incredible how much of the drone and excess noise was knocked out. Immediately noticeable was the ability to talk to each other at the 1500-1700 range.
Best $50 dollar mod I've done to a car
Cleaned the entire rear hatch area by first vacuuming and then wiping everything down with an all purpose cleaner (I used Grime Reaper)
Then I laid down strips of Peel and Seal overlapping by about 2 inches.
1 Roll covered this much:
2 rolls covered the rest:
The third roll, like I said, was just to double it up in as much of the hatch as possible.
I highly recommend that anyone do this if you want to cut down on road noise. VERY inexpensive and blocks a lot more sound than the Block IT setup (that's all I have to compare it to).
Very satisfied.

I read this thread and I'm very impressed, especially for the cost. So I gotta ask since its been a few years how is it hold up? Any smells? Still doing the job? Would you do it again? etc.
