If their is a tornado, earthquake, flood or widespread loss of electricity I don't want driving over road debris or potholes to stop my ability to get home or to a place of safety. Runflats are simply good insurance I don't want to be without just because they cost a bit more.

Yes, what he said.

Also calling a flat bed tow and making sure the air head tow driver doesnt ruin your car.

To the OP you are a better man than me. Having said that, the first chance I get, I will be getting rid of the runcraps on my Car.

300 miles....... you really took a chance... and ....were really lucky as well. By stopping every 50 miles, that probably helped the heat index somewhat... but that tire could have come apart on you.

good to know the run-flats can pay off but I sure would like a quieter tire...I guess it is all about trade offs

That is an amazing story. That settles it, my next tires will be the Firestone Wide Oval Runflats.

I have an '09 with F55 and installed Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus ZP (runflats) eight months ago and love the quiet and comfortable ride, plus the 45,000 mile warranty they come with them. Not all runflats are noisey and rough riding like the OEM Goodyears. The runflats do cost more, but provide security no non-runflat can provide.

A couple years ago I was about 40 miles from home at 10:30 on a Friday night and got a "ding-ding-ding" and a low pressure alert for a rear tire. I just drove home and took care of it the next day. I repaired it and it ran for another several thousand miles before the tread was gone.

Bill Cosby's son Ennis would no doubt be alive if he had runflats. Instead, when his Mercedes got a flat tire a short distance from his girlfriend's house he had to pull over to change the tire and got shot in the head and killed by some druggie. If he had runflats he would have just driven on to his destination.

Oh well....many here think the runflats are so terrible that they'll never run them.

Me....I'll never run without them, except on the track!! I've had 3 C6's over the last 6-1/2 years. I went decades without ever having a flat, but since getting the C6 I've had at least 6 punctures, although I'm sure at least a couple of them have been some jealous a/h propping a nail or screw up against the tire in a parking lot. One was a screw in the sidewall - no way it would get there by running over it. It must have been inserted by the punk skateboarders I saw over in the area of the car when I came out of a restaurant.

So....you'll only see runflats on my C6's on the street!!!

Bob
