When shopping for a C6, areas to check for are:
Wanna give me a hand ?
I'm in the market for a C6 (more than likely a Convertible, but time will tell)
Regardless - What specific (trouble) areas should I check or have checked out by a mechanic, if I find the right used Vette for me ?
THANKS in advance

Take the VIN to Chevy repair shop and have it checked for repair history. That should be the first step, and it should be free.
For specific advice here: state what year and manual or auto trans.
Personally, I would not avoid any car because of "some" problems that have been reported with that model., but I would have any car checked by a mech. unless it came with a darn good warranty.
And remember that a Carfax report doesn't mean much (advice from my boy that runs a body shop).

A few things come to mind:
Look at tires, especially inside edge of fronts. They could be worn to the cords with lots of tread everywhere else.
If the car is more than a couple of years old insist on a new battery.
Look for tears or holes in the headliner on the sides toward the back.
Take a good look underneath, it can tell you a lot about the cars former environment.
the CarFax idea that has already been mentioned is a good idea.
Good luck in finding that perfect ride!!

What eveyone else already said plus I would stay away from heavy modded cars. I am not saying that they are bad, but if you are not a mechanic, you could be looking for a lot of problems. Normal mods are, exhaust, air intake, TB polishing and some cosmetic ones. These are bolt ons and should not cause you are reason for concern. Cams, superchargers and gear changes probably mean they were raced at one time or another. Again, not saying they are bad, but you should be mechanically inclined if you are to buy one. Like already mentioned, tires are very expensive, make sure they are in good shape. Check the body for excessive wear, too many scratches or nicks. If you like a clean car, then it could cost you a paint job, again, pretty expensive. I would guess, that a DD should average anywhere from 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year, where 15,000 would be on the high side.
Nice clean vettes are out there, just take you time and the right one will show up.
Good Luck.

Look under the front to make sure the Air Dam is not missing or damaged. It's the black rubber and plastic spoiler under the front and is made up of one center and 2 side pieces. Push up on the bottom radiator supports to make sure they are not broken. They are the lowest metal supports in front. You should also get two key FOB's (remotes). I like having the power top on my vert. Just lazy I guess. I bought a 06 with 34,000 miles on it. So the low mileage C6's are out there!
