That totally depends on how you drive your car. 45,000 miles isn't unheard of. You have audible wear sensor's. When you hear them it's time. Also any reputable mechanic can tell by looking at your pads and rotors.

It really depends on how you drive. I used to replace the front brakes on an SUV my ex drove every 9 months like clockwork (about 10,000 miles). I got the SUV in the divorce (or got stuck with it, depending on how you look at it) and drove it for 4 years (40,000 miles) on one set of pads.

45K on original and expect to go 10-15 more. And I drive it like I am a NASCAR rookie.

I have nearly 62,000 miles on my ' 08 of which I put on 31,000 and they still look OK. Of course they could have been replaced before I bought the car, along with the tires. I would be wary of depending on the squealers, I had a Lincoln LS that lost pads and the squealer on the outer left rear and was rubbing a padless metal shoe to metal disc Amazingly there was no unusual noise, but it made a mess of the disc.

Best approach is to take a wheel off for a close inspection. Even then it is difficult to see the pad/metal shoe joint. You should be able to see the squealer though and use the distance between the tip and the disc as an indication of how much life is left.

We all drive different, so any answer is a guess.

This is a good question.
I have 55,000 miles on my 08 A6 with F55 OEM brakes.
Stops as good as it ever did with no problems.
However the rotors have some pretty deep grooves in them.
Trying to decide if I should go ahead and have the rotors turned, or wait until I change the rotors and pads.

2006 Z51 with 46000

i bought new front pads last year, decided to put them on the other night;pulled the tires off, took the calipers off, and, the OEM pads looked as good as the new pads;so, i put all back together, and, have decided to wait longer

brakes are not pulling, and, the rotors are smooth

there is a small squeal every once in a while;that is what made me get the new pads.

Most of my driving is on the highway at 80mph so I expect 100,000 miles. My SUV has 140,000 miles and still has lots left on the original brake pads.
