Question about BMW jacking pucks

So really, the eye bolts (on the homemade looking ones) are really only for the people who want to leave their hockey pucks installed. Four normal hockey pucks do the same thing for $6 basically.
In fact, one puck does the same as 4, most times you just use one jack.

BMW pricey
Paid $28 for the 4 rectangular BMW pucks when I bought our 05. When we bought our 07, the price had gone up to $65 for the same 4 pucks. Wasn't going to pay a BMW AND Corvette tax. Now I use the hockey pucks.

I'm still stuck on the notion of there only being 1/16 inch clearance with the BMW round pucks. All you would need is a lift with a minor metal protrusion around the outside of the puck to hit the rocker. A hockey puck is twice the thickness (1/2 vs a full inch) and the BMW pucks are 2.75" wide, the pucks are a full 3", and if you go through the math it is a 20% increase in surface area, that leaves me leaning towards the pucks without the convenience of leaving them in all the time.
Note I just checked the BMW site and I can see that the rectangular ones are the largest, more surface area than hockey pucks and one inch think, and I think they look fine, so my conclusion is to buy them if I want a "permanant" install or go with hockey pucks and save about $65.

I am the poster who stated the clearance for the round BMW pucks was about 1/16 of an inch below the rockers. I estimated this clearance ..... but due to the questions here I went to my car and measured the following clearances.
Clearance of puck below the rocker approximately 3/16 of an inch
Distance from front puck to the ground approx 5 and 1/4 inches
Distance from rear puck to the ground approx 5 and 3/4 inches
Things to think about:
Rockers are glued on, I doubt all rockers are mounted with exactly the same clearance.
My car is almost new with no suspension sag and little tire wear.
Jack and lift clearance can be critical. I have two floor jacks, one has 4 1/2 clearance and the other 5 3/8.
What good is a puck if it extends too far and will not allow a jack to fit under it?

I just looked at the Elite Engineering jacking pads and they are $59.96. They are taller than the other metal ones available, so should solve the height issue that some have concerns with. They look so good I ordered a set myself. Been holding off on this, but this looks like the right set. They come in blue or red. Go to eliteengineeringusa.com.

I finally had to make a choice since a decision had to be made soon because the oil change being due. Go with what is made for the Corvette and be done with it. Elite Engineering was the way to go for me, free shipping and you know that they are going to be the right height.
Plus they just look and feel cool.
Just a side note: Racer needs to post more threads with shots like that. Compliments!

So I purchased 4 of the round BMW pucks 4 years and 72,000 miles ago. At VIR two weeks ago I lost both front pucks. That was a long time they stayed in. Time to buy some hockey pucks and keep in the rear cubby. I can find better things to spend $70 on. Now I just have to figure out how to get the rear pucks out. They don't just twist and pull out.

Whatever pads/pucks you are using, be careful of those lifts with a single center post. On our C5 with hockey pucks, the four arms coming out from the center post will flex downward when the weight of the car goes onto them, and the center post can punch your floor.
In our C6 cubby, I keep a set of hockey pucks with eyebolts and second set that are plain, can double up if necessary.

The BMW part number is 51-71-8-268-885 for 1 piece. You will need to order 4. The list price is 15.57 each. I work for BMW and have used these for 4 years no problem and mine have been left on the car.
