Does different manufactuers install a strip of foam along the edge where the side skirt meets the rockers? Just wondering what's the purpose and if this was needed. I would prefer to install it without the foam piece to reduce the chance of a gap between the side skirt and rocker.

There will still be a fine gap w/o "foam" or a silicone adhesive. I went the silicone route and it was a sloppy job thus i removed it... and then noticed sand and tiny rocks wedged themselves into the crevice (gap).
