Default WARNING!!! Tinted tail lights!! California

I was with a friend yesterday in his 2005 mustang and we got pulled over yesterday by the CHP on the 101 fwy. We were going 65 m.p.h and were wondering what the problem was. So, he approached the car and asked for the usual stuff, license, reg, insurance. My friend asked what's wrong? CHP said I pulled you over for the tinted tail lights on your car. My friend asked if it was a fix-it ticket and the CHP said NO and that it was a $500 dollar fine!!!!!!! Luckily my friends tail lights weren't painted, they were the GTS covers. My friend asked "If I can take them off right now, will you let me go". The officer said yes. My friend got out of the car, pulled off the covers and put them in the trunk, the chippie let us go. Whew!!!! So, just a warning for you guys out there with "painted" tail lights, BEWARE!!!!
More proof that our state is desperate for cash!!!!

Running around with tinted taillights sounds like a good way to get rear ended in the daytime.

Make up your mind. He let him go with no fine. Please explain your contradiction.

And yes, your state is broke but this is not from people painting their tail lights black.

So the lesson to learn here is to avoid running illegal taillights in Calif because you will get a ticket.

if he/state wanted to make money, he wouldn't have let you off. that's like saying, but I slowed down to the speed limit...you usually get the ticket for what is, not what you can do about it. your warning to others tho is a good one.

What? this is your first experience with this? i've been getting tickets for tailight modifications since the late 80"s, welcome to modifying your car...

by the looks of your Avatar, get ready for more, your tinted windows will get you a ticket too if they are on the driverside and passenger, also if your vehicle is lowered, there are several items they can get you there, one is if you lowered it, headlights can't be any lower then 24 inches from center beam to ground, it's ok if it's that way from factory on an unaltered vehicle, but as soon as they suspect you dropped the ride hieght, they will ding you for it,
also you cannot have any part of the vehicle lower then the bottem of the rim, some lowered vettes do..where's your front license plate? get ready for that too...

you just hit the tip of the iceburg my friend...

Exactly. There are a lot of ways to donate money by way of a fine. And all of them are completely voluntary.

The additional taillamps on a tow truck shall be lighted whenever the headlamps are lighted.

Amended Ch. 924, Stats. 1988. Effective January 1, 1989.

I doubt it's a $500 ticket though but they can definitely issue a non correctable violation. Some of those chippies have big time attitudes. That's why I love LAPD and especially LA Co. SD they simply don't care and if you get pulled over then you know you're really in trouble. Maybe he was a vette owner and vette owners don't let vette owners even ride in mustangs.

I just love it when out-of-state members have to comment on the financial condition or the social-economic environment of Calif! To those folks: stick to comments about your own state, what ever its' conditions. Calif has far more positives than negatives and unless you live here and experience all of this on a daily basis, we do not appreciate your snide slams. They are worthy of nothing!

So when the People's Socialist Republic of California comes asking for a Federal bail out, can I just show them this post and say it is California's problem, let them deal with it?

That would be fine except for the fact that California is incapable of paying its bills without federal assistance. As a result, we are all getting nicked in the wallet. And since that is the case; if I choose to make any statements about the fiscal irresponsibliity so rampant in the state; I am paying for the privelage (and the right to do so).

It's fun to spend other people's money.

Oh, crap. We're the 'other people'.
