Rear Defroster just went out... WIRES ARCING!
Did a little digging and noticed the Lift Cylinder where the rear defroster wires connect was arcing... yes that's right ARCING! I thought I was going to catch fire or something. Disconnected the wire and promtply went online to buy replacement lift cylinders... I hope these new ones solve the problem... We will see.

Sounds more like you lost an electrical connection back there on the window but did you have the defroster turned on? Doesn't make sense that the risers would have anything to do with electrical unless there's a ground missing and the ground path is finding its way through them, but that shouldn't happen unless the defroster is turned on.

Yea, I had the defroster on. and your right the arc wasn't traveling through the lifter itself. The lifter was getting HOT. Seems like bad/loose connection.
I get my parts in the next 3 days.

A loose connection does make more sense for arcing. So make sure all wires are tight and there and that no conductors are making contact with each other.

Yea mine (2006 cp) hasn't been used either. Almost had a chance waiting for wife in parking lot the rear window fogged, great, I can see if the defogger works. Wife came to car and opened rear to load packages, fog gone. darn.
