Need help! Rear view mirror lights stay on
I have an '05. Not an OnStar mirror. The buttons on the mirror say 'Mirror' and Compass' When I turn the car off (in reverse) the lights in the mirrors stay on. I tried pushing the light buttons on the mirror but nothing. They don't turn off after some time. Anyway to turn them off?
Thanks

2005 owner's manual, page 3-18:
Courtesy Lamps
When any door or the hatch/trunk lid is opened, the
interior lamps will go on unless it is bright outside.
You can also turn the courtesy lamps on and off
by pressing the instrument panel brightness ****.

The reason your lights are staying on is likely because you have bumped or pressed the mirror light switch which is the "press in" part of the dash pad dimmer switch to the left of your steering wheel. Of course you could also have a door left ajar.
Check your passenger side door to make sure it is fully closed. Open the drivers side door and get in the car. Make sure the drivers door is closed completely once you are in the car. Wait at least 30 seconds and make sure that the lights have had time to go out. Make sure that the mirror switches are in the out (off) position and press the dimmer switch to the left of the steering wheel. This should turn your lights off.
You don't need to hold the switch to the left of your knee, it is a momentary press. Only try one switch at a time and wait at least 30 seconds between presses of each switch or other switches. In your quest to turn them off by the mirror lights you now have likely turned on the mirror lights and the dimmer switch won't turn them off initially.

I finally figured it out. On the mirror depressing the switches turn the lights OFF. In my mind that's backwards. Depressing should turn them on instead of off. That's like flicking a light switch down to turn the lights on in a room.

Don't know why they designed it like that.

I think they operate the way they do because the clear plastic switch is also the lens for the light and in the out/down position they are more effective as a lens.
Just speculating.

I occasionally bump the **** with my left knee while getting out of the car. Thankfully the battery saver kicks in and shuts it off.

I bought a Grand Sport last Saturday - the mirror lights stay and for the life of me couldn't get them off. Didn't find the necessary information in the Owners Manual, I probably just missed it. Then I remembered you guys on Corvette Forum - thanks 'eboggs' for solving my problem imediately. I was starting to panic thinking that I may have an electrical problem.
Which I did - ME!

It shouldn't matter whether your buttons are integrated into the lenses of the lights or not (my '05 they are separate buttons), they should still time out at ~20 minutes. All the lights should do this. I regularly (almost always) leave my trunk open, and they always turn off.
