I am also curious as I have a 2005 that sometimes makes noise when making a U turn or pulling in/out of a parking space.

Below are the links to view all the Recalls and TSB's for your 2005.

There are a lot of them for the 2005 model year with 5 Recalls and 147 TSB's!

No recall on the rear end service. Guess it's not that important?

The service writer, who also is a friend, at the Chevy dealer that I have dealt with for years that are a big Corvette sales and service operation told me that the fluid change was not a problem from the standpoint of causing any damage.

It was a TSB that they were completely familiar with and had done many times to correct the clunking, noise and jerking if the car owner wanted to get rid of those irritations. He was the one that told me that they always do the axle bolt TSB when they do the fluid change TSB.

He told me to just wait till I brought the car in for any other service and was no hurry because it wouldn't cause any damage to the differential. I had it done with the last oil change and all the rear end things that were there before were gone immediately.

I'm not familiar with the axle bolt needing re-torquing. Is it difficult to do and when is it located? Have to remove the wheels? Jack the car up? Thanks!

They did it when it was up on the rack for the oil and differential fluid change.

Sorry but I have no idea what was involved and I was not even aware of it until the service writer mentioned it. This dealership is very up on Vettes and take very good care of Vette drivers. They even have a separate special area that they are parked in with about 10' between the cars while they wait to go in for service.

Wanna change mine...but to what?

Can someone describe the noise better - Mine sounds like marbles in a can. It is intermittent. I just bought the car and not sure if done yet.

Pop the center cap off the wheel. Use a 33 millimeter socket and torque to 160 foot pounds. No jacking, no removing wheel. If you search for rear axle nut torque you'll find the TSB with same instructions. TSB 07-04-95-001
I torqued mine to 140 per original spec since I didn't change the nut. Both nuts turned almost 1/2 turn before they torqued to 140. Stopped my popping when changing directions.

I noticed clank/notchiness with my '08 @ 50k miles during sharp slow speed turn like in parking lot.

Had a change of the rear diff fluid + GM additive and problem went away. Got the additive from GM dealer. Didn't know that GM had changed the fluid requirement, it certainly would've been cheaper.

Default Rear end

On my 2007 it starred at around the 19k miles mark. Took it to the dealer and cganged the oil on the rear end. Got rid of the noise. Now that I have 34k miles on the click it started again.

IIRC, the Owner Manual or some GM Bulletin talk about the "marbles in a can" happening with the manual transmission only, and say it's normal.
I'm a shiftless guy with an A6 and have no personal experience.

I don't have the bulletin with me, but IIRC the nuts are supposed to be a kind of crush fit and shouldn't be re-torqued except as a check to see if they are starting to loosen. If one is loose, the correct procedure is to replace it and use the red Loctite.

Can someone post a copy of the latest bulletin? There have been several revisions over the years.
