Default Cost to ship an h-pipe or x-pipe?

Does anyone have experience shipping an h-pipe or x-pipe? I'm trying to figure out the most cost-effective means of doing so such that cost of shipping doesn't outstrip the cost of the item. Knowing things to avoid would be helpful as well.

Thanks

I shipped an X-pipe from SoCal to Texas - $38.50

Easiest way is to 'make you own box' by combining multiple boxes. That way you can get it to fix snug.

I shiped one from missouri to georgia for 37.00 but never put in box. Ups said to just wrap it with bubble wrap and put tag on it was good enough. it arrived in good shape with no damage and sure was easier than finding a box, might want to check this idea out in your area.

I did this with wheels/tires at a UPS hub and they tried to hit me with a surcharge because the item wasn't boxed?!?! Just check at your local shipping location. Wrapping in bubble-wrap would be a lot easier like ghostrunner says.

I shipped an X pipe yesterday thru FedEx. I padded the ends and the sharp mid mount and used stretch wrap and wrapped it good then stuck 2 labels on it. Dropped it off at FedEx. From North Florida to UpState NY $16.75.

Mesurement were 60x22x3 weight 20 pounds.

Shipped a base x-pipe from California to NY via UPS. They did the packaging and it ended up costing $82 and some change.

This I like.

$82 for S&H is more than 2/3rds the cost of the item.

Keep in mind that the item is heavilly discounted. If you go to the Chevy dealership, it would cost quite a bit more. I can e-mail pics if necessary. Unfortunately, it is the size of the H pipe that increases the shipping cost, as it does not weigh that much at all. I woudl imagine about 30 pounds packaged or so.

I love it!!!. Everything bolted on perfectly. You were right when you said an 09+ npp muffler would require an 09+ x-pipe as the 08 x-pipe wouldn't fit with an 09 npp exhaust. Seems where the exhaust connects, the 08 is slightly angled outward where the 09+ pipes are straight. Either way, brought it to a shop to have the lifted. they removed the old exhaust and x-pipe and installed the new one without a hitch. They even allowed me to run the hoses from the npp in a box while the car was on the lift.
Long story short... I love the sound it produces. Sooo much better than the quiet stock exhaust. I leave it off during the mornings cause when i start the car it would be way loud and wake the neighbors up but when i get off my block.... On it it goes. Thanx again for the pipe.

When I see listings for x/h-pipes, the prices for used stockers is usually about the same, but all have the same caveat of price + shipping. Thus, the thread. It's easy to ask people who've done this before and find out that one guy shipped FedEx, used bubble-wrap+tape and paid $17 to ship when another guy just had it custom-boxed at UPS and paid $80 to ship.

That stretch wrap stuff you see on packages on pallets. About 5 or 6 rounds. Really just enough so the people handling the pipe on it's way doesn't get anything on them.
