Default Anybody use a high petformance oil filter?

I was debating whether to spend the extra $ on a k&n or mobil 1 filter? Does it pay if so what filter part# are you using or should i just stick to the Acdelco? And for the delco is it the 46 or 48 on a 07 LS2
Thanks

I use the regular old AC/Delco oil filter. I also change the oil and filter more frequently than might be recommended.

Get the UPF filters, if you can. No need to buy "performance" filters.

Stay away from Fram they are junk. I cut open all of my filters on my race stuff for inspection. We have always used a WIX filter.

I use the K&N filter. I like the aircraft style nut on the bottom. Makes it easy to install and remove using a 1" socket!!

I use the Mobil 1 gold filter. Number 113 I think for the LS2.
I have always used this filter and Mobil 1 syn oil. Now have 73k miles with no problems. Cheap ins. Change oil at 50% just to be safe.

There is a lot of research out there on oil filters and I previously thought all filters were pretty much the same. I no longer believe that and from what I have read Purolator is one of the best available and priced right too.

Fram had a pretty bad reputation.

I have switched to Purolator.

I use both the Mobil1 and the K&N filters. There is a difference between those filters and the run of the mill filters. I normally purchase my Mobil1 oil when AutoZone has their specials where you can buy a 5L(5.28qt) jug of Mobil1 oil for $29.99 and you get a Mobil 1 oil filter($12.99 value) thrown in. Compare that price with what 5 quarts of oil costs at Walmart($25.50) and the run of the mill ACDelco oil filter($4).

The premium filters have a thicker shell(.022" vs. .015") then the base filter, use a synthetic filtering material that captures smaller particles of dirt, etc and also have a thicker steel end plate for strength. In addition, the premium filters have a better design anti drainback valve and (when required) a better design bypass valve. Isn't that worth a dollar more on your engine. A replacement engine for my Z06 would be over $18,000(incl installation), so I think I'll stick with the Mobil1 and K&N filters. If, for nothing else, using them makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my engine.

I change oil & filter around 3,000 miles just for the fun of it. Over 120,000 miles on my 07 and still running strong.

The 2007 LS2, as do the later LS3 and all LS7 and LS9 engines, use the ACDelco PF48 filter, ACDelco UPF48R filter, Mobil1 M1-113 filter, K&N HP-1017 filter. If you have difficulty finding those filters the eith ther Purolator PL12222 ot the WIX 57060 are excellent filters.

All great suggestions and think I will stick to the higher quality filters. K&N or Mobil 1. I see the K&N's for $9.99 on amazon.com so thats a score! It makes sense in the long run. I only put a couple thousand miles a year on the car so I usually change my oil once or twice a year max so spending the extra $5-10 to play it safe makes sense.
Thanks for the feedback and sugegstions!

The PF-46 on LS2 & PF-48 on LS3 IIRC will do the job, but a Mobil 1 or a Purolator PureONE filter is much better. You decide if it’s worth a few extra bucks a year

As far as high performance engine oil filters are concerned, the AC DELCO ULTRA GUARD UPF48R specified for my LS3 dry sump engine is one fine oil filter by any measure:

98% efficiency rating.

8-10 micron filtration level rating.
