Whats the reasoning for oil change every 3-5K with Mobile 1?
The common notion is oil is changed every 3-5K using Mobile 1 on the vettes yet we just picked up my wife's ML350 and the service manage said the maintenance (oil included - Mobile 1 as well) is every 10K or once per year.
Both vehicles use Mobile 1, why is Chevrolet preaching ever 3-5K when Mercedes is saying every 10K or once a year?

It's the "Valvoline" mentality. If you don't change your oil every 3000 miles, your engine will blow up. Total BS.
As 08CRM stated... people stuck in 1960. Come on guys, it's the 21st century!

The C6 Vettes have an oil life monitor. Change oil when prompted (i.e. oil life monitor says 0% life left) or once per year.
I, too, had the belief that oil should be changed every 3K miles. With modern engines, lead-free gas and synthetic oil, this is probably no longer applicable. I am stretching out the change interval on one of our other cars using Mobil 1 too.

Synthetic oil can last much longer than Dino oil. I have regularly gotten 7,000 miles + between changes on my C5 when I used it for business. I would monitor my oil life to determine when to change.

I change the filter ever 3,000 miles or so and then top off with Mobil 1until the DIC say's change it.
I started using Mobil1 back in the mid-70's when it first came out and it was advertised to last 50,000 miles between oil changes with a filter change every 3,000 or 4,000 miles and a top off.
I had a new Chrylser then and put Mobil1 in at 500 miles and at 140,000 sold the car. I only changed the oil 3 times in the 140,000 miles, but did change the filter around every 3,000 miles and topped off the oil.
The guy I sold it to decided to rebuild the engine and when he tore it down it was in such good shape he put new gaskets in it and put it back together without doing anything to it.
Later Mobil1 changed their marketing to say change it every 25,000 miles and after that it changed to follow recommendations of the engine manufacturer.
I have read oil studies (by independant sources) that say Mobil1 currently will last 17,000 miles plus.

I don't like the oil change computer, I actually change oil around 7 - 8000 m. Works good for me, wifes Trailblazer has over 120k on it with no problems, & thats how we've done it.

Our 2008 is averaging 13,000 miles per oil change via the DIC. No issues during 49,000 miles.
Dealership stated just follow the DIC and change when recommended, about 8% remaining is typical.

Count me as one of the old schoolers. Change oil every 3k to 5k. Hey, a mobile 1 change is only $35 at wally world and less than $20 for non synthetic supplies for the DD. Pretty cheap insurance IMO.

As a comparison, my previous 2006 911S had a recommended interval of 20,000 miles also using Mobil 1. It had a 8.5 qt. Capacity.
I changed it every 10k., especially when the stealer charged $210...
The Z06, with less than 8k on it, has only seen 2 oil changes, and probably should have been done more often per the 1 year rule.

"I voluntarily took 60 days off from OT"
Once a year unless the DIC says otherwise....Too bad GM couldnt program the DIC to include the one year interval...Oh well, that's what my service notebook is for

My C6s have been averaging 9K to 10K miles a year and oil changes once a year. Even my wife's 2011 Chevy Equinox with the oil life meter will run about 7500 miles between oil changes.
IDSRVIT, I think you made an incorrect statement:

Hmm I guess i was stuck in 1960 as well even though I was born in 86'. I've been changing my oil every 2500 miles or so. I guess it isn't necessary. Maybe I'll start to stretch it to 4-5k per oil change. Eveytime I change it it says around 75-80% oil life left i always figured it was wrong.
