Default 2012 Z06 faster than the Ferrari 458, Lexus LFA etc!

Sorry if somebody already posted this, but I just found the Motor Trend hot lap of the 2012 Z06 with the cup tires and it's faster than the Italia and pretty much faster in the track than anything else including the Audi R8 GT, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, GTR, Lexus LFA, holy sh$%!! I knew about the Nurburgring times, but this is from Motor Trend in a smaller track. The Z06 is 2 seconds faster, damn! no dual clutch or fancy electronic differential, those cup tires may be really sticky! I wonder how quick they will wear and how good they are in the street. I'm sure that's going to be a mod that everybody is gonna want to try in their Vettes next year.
Enjoy!

Yeah I'd love to get the cup tires but they would probably need to be replaced every 2000 miles!

So.... we have an American sports car, NA push rod v8, RWD, 6 speed Tremec, no gull wing doors, and it beats the shirt off the competition. And to my ears, sounds sweeter

And oh yeah, it costs less.

Go Chevy go

Yep cheaper, the Lexus LFA is like 380K ridiculous!
The F-458 Italia at least 280K, Audi R8 GT 196K.

I've heard they tweaked some of the TC and did something to the chassis but I guess the tires make a big difference. Either way I'm sure the tires in the Euro cars and the Lexus are equally expensive.

They are very sticky, they are night and day compared to summer tires and typically last about 3K miles or so and not driveable in the rain. Im not sure if that is going to be a popular mod for most people unless you re planning on tracking it.

Hmm, of course we all know how important tires are, we have screamed this for years as the ZR1 struggled with lousy tires. The same huge hold back for at least the 458 and maybe quite a few of the other cars was it was just on it's Bridgestone normal tires. Even the driver said "huge difference between these tires and the cup tires" as he was sliding around the track in the 458. Just sayin' let's keep it real, since we all made a big deal about the tires in the ZR1 vs Viper threads.

Plus they would make a huge diff on launching, so better drag times too

Default Score one for average Joe!

Hey, great video's and I really like the soundtrack and the real time comments from Randy that give you an idea of what he is feeling. Even with equivalent rubber, the vette would probably still be the fastest or right near the fastest cars here. I'm an engineer, not a corporate rader or heart surgeon. The best thing with the vette is that a regular joe like me can (and will some day after my daughters college is finished!) get into a Z06 or grand sport and dog these guys all day long on the track. No way I'm ever gonna touch the Ferrari or high end Porche unless I win the lottery.

I love my vette as much as the next guy but going around a track faster than some other car doesn't help me much.

Build quality, material quality and for cars costing upwards of $100,000 styling and exclusivity make a difference.

I'm sure you can get a 95 Mustang to go around a track as fast as anything else for less than $100,000 in mods.

Sorry, but you are 100% WRONG.......

The optional Z07 performance package on our test model adds adjustable magnetic shock absorbers, carbon-ceramic brakes, additional cooling capacity, some carbon-fiber bodywork, and optional barely street-legal race-compound tires.

Want to see just how fairly the Z06 matches up to those other cars?

Then put the 458, LFA, GT3RS, GTR, R8 GT on Michelin Cup race tires too.. and then redo the laps.

Im a Z06 fan.. hell look at my name: Daekwan06. But still, that doesnt change how important tires are to overall performance. Not matter how great your car is, the tires are still the ONLY thing on the car touching the racetrack/road. It is one of the most important (if not the most important) factor.

Do I even need mention with the pricetag of all these cars, theres no doubt their respective owners would be able to put the Michelin Cup race tires on their vehicles too. Making it a fair fight.
