2,3,7...whatever. But let's not get crazy here...there are lots of people who have C6s that have never had a balancer issue. It's not automatically a problem...only if it wobbling badly or sliding backwards into the engine.

So what exactly is it that causes the "chirping - ringing" sound? My '08 started doing it not too long ago on cold startup. It goes away after about 30 seconds. There is no visible wobble and it has not moved/shifted. Mine only has 11K miles.

I just had the dealer replace balancer on my 07 because it had a bad wobble. Is it normal for the new one to have slight wobble to or should it run perfectly true?

A very, very slight wobble is no big deal. But if you had the dealer put on another GM balancer then unfortunately you may be headed towards another wobble situation down the road as these parts are known to be bad right out of the factory box so-to-speak.. Most people put an after market piece on. But of course if this was warranty work you probably had no choice.

That was the case, mine was replaced under the GMPP extended warranty. So your saying that none of the factory balancers run perfectly true?

No he's saying that the factory balancer will eventually fail again. Since yours was fixed under warranty, no biggie. If it fails again under warranty, see if they will install an aftermarket one for you. You would have to pay for the part, but it would be worth it if they covered the labor.

A harmonic balancer should not wobble at all. There are two operative words in the title - Harmonic...and Balancer.

A wobbling harmonic balancer is an oxymoron.

Unfortunately, but that's why mine now has a Powerbond. Forevermore!

Why should GM waste one minute of their time installing a different type of HB when the customer ends up paying?
By the way...my wobbles to 05 with 33,000 miles..it pisses me off.

It's a matter of "economy" and the engineering established MTBF. Without going through an incredibly boring narrative, If a pre-determined majority of units survive past the MTBF, then no redesign is necessary.....and I know that doesn't make a single soul dealing with the failure feel any better.

Just save yourself as all the anxiety in the world isn't going to change those stats. No sense in harming your health.

So what causes the chirping - ringing sound? Mine does it on cold start for about 20 seconds. There is no visible wobble. 11K miles.

I fail to understand how a brand new harmonic balancer can wobble, even if it is made by GM

The balancers are not made by GM. I had the original HB wobble, the second wobble and then the third harmonic balancer wobble. The one I have now is a Powerbond 10% underdrive HB. So far so good and its been over a year.

Oh thats easy....its called cheap materials and manufacturing process and then very poor quality control.

I was just told by the dealer that my balancer need to be replaced again after 1400 miles. My questions is that if they all have a slight wobble when they are new how dose the dealer know if the one they are installing is defective or not?

A harmonic balancer is not to wobble at all.

I was only asking because some the other commits say there is a wobble even when new. So any idea why a failure in 1400 miles?

Slightly different pulley diameter turns the accessories 10% slower, resulting in 10% lower parasitic losses, equals more HP to the wheels.
