Default Shutdown Reduced Power and Engine Stop

For the last year I have had no issues, no information center messages. Yesterday the vehicle under normal driving conditions (no sudden acceleration etc), was possessed it started by reduced power, engine shut down, service traction control, service vehicle messages and check engine light. Pulled over waited a couple of minutes started the vehicle up no problems runs fine no skipping, hesitation or rough idle. Drive 10 minutes same thing again. Took a while to get back to the dealership, didn't want it towed.

Contact OnStar, they run diagnostics, come back with a faulty ECM (really??) must take it back to have it re-programmed. I check the Forum quite often and this is the first I seen this. Any clues? Has this happened to others? Local dealership won't have the "key" tech in till Tuesday to look at it. Any of you techs out there I would appreciate the help. Garage is empty and my Dodge misses his brother next to him.

Sorry information is in the signature 2011 GS , 3000k miles, battery voltages, oil pressures (when running) were all fine. 93 Octane all the time usually take it out once a week and "let her breathe". Yes the Dodge is a distant cousin (also in signature)

I would have checked the battery and put a code reader on it before taking it to the dealership but no matter at this point. OnStar likely made an accurate assessment and your car's at the dealership. ECM failures aren't common but if a simple reflash solves the problem that'll be easy. Keep us posted and good luck.

I'm also reluctant to get towed/flatbedded. Anyway, now that it's at the dealership, let 'em fix it.

Since we don't know what codes were thrown, diagnosing the problem becomes a forum guessing game.

Fun game. I'll play.

My guess is a bad sensor initiated a "limp home" mode -- I believe the ECM uses default settings to keep the engine running at reduced power when certain sensors go bad.

Let us know what finally fixes it.

Don't have a code reader and the battery was tight and clean, when running the voltage showed 14.1 volts. Just hope the the guys locally can handle it.

Thanks for the inputs just thought a "limp home mode" would not kill the engine.

TRY THIS...Disconect battery cable from battery...Wait 5 minutes than conect cables and see if that helps.

Just curious does replacing the ECM require the FOBs to be reprogrammed?

I don't believe so, because the fobs run through the RCDLR...but this is not something I have dealt with before, so I am not certain....
