FWIW, I was just getting back into the forum and was just browsing the C6 listings when I noticed this heading. Having owned 6 Corvettes and 4 Mustangs, I thought I would post a response with my 2 cent's worth. Honestly, I didn't even take note of the dates on the thread.

SSW exhaust + Borla gave my C6 a nice voice. Had an 06 GTO as well and it did have a nice rumble. Lots of fun to drive once the shifter got some short throw love. That car suffered from a crappy drive shaft design which robbed power.

Exhaust Note
It's no different than the Harley crowd that insist on installing two separate exhaust pipes for the POTATO-POTATO exhaust note.
If you install a two into one exhaust system you gain more torque and horsepower. But at the expense of the loss of the POTATO-POTATO exhaust note.
In the sport bike world every High Performance system whether on 4 cylinder,V-twin or V four routes the exhaust into one pipe for max torque and horsepower.
Is it Apples and Oranges or Potatoes and Horsepower ????

This thread is actually kind of funny. I had to drive into work a few weeks ago to pick up a new headset so I could continue working from home when a guy in a brand new (new enough it still had paper plates) Mustang pulled up next to me and started revving the engine. I thought this was rather funny so I revved my LS3 with its 1-7/8" LT headers, catless X-pipe and wide open NPP exhaust in response. The guy quickly let off the gas and disappeared into the distance not wanting anything else to do with me. I look at it as one less Mustang owner who will be trying to challenge a Corvette on the highway.

I agree the Mustang exhaust sounds better than Corvette. Does that mean I want a Mustang? Nope, because its heritage is Pony car, like Camaro. I owned a 72 (my first car) and an 89 LX 5.0. They don't compare to the overall Corvette experience to me.

I regularly get compliments from complete strangers on how good mine sounds. Old timers, young guys, girls. Most any time I stop somewhere. Even if they don't say something, they are looking.
LS3, 1 7/8ths long tube headers, Borla S-type with X-Pipe,
and a .613/.623 - 277/289 - 112 ICL - 115 LSA cam. The cam helps.

This is the 2nd thread this week about the C6 not sounding as good as a Mustang. My thought if it is that important to you then sell your Vette and go buy a damn Mustang. I didn't buy either of mine because of the exhaust sound.

While I do agree that there are a lot of Mustangs out there that sound great, I always get a laugh when I see one taking off from a light and it sounds like it should be going waaaayyyy faster than it actually is!

Ok .... It's not 277° / 289°
It's a 227° / 239° duration cam (that's more like it) ... it's a moderate duration cam
We always use the duration at .050" valve lift when we quote duration.

The other day a Mustang pulled up next to me and I was audibly enthralled with its exhaust. It wasn't the volume. but rather a richness in it's sound that exuded power. The thought came to me, that here I was sitting in a Vette with more HP than the car next to me, yet one couldn't tell that from the sound of the C6's exhaust. Mind you I have the Z06 exhaust with the bi-mode open most of the time. And yes I know the NPP is a little louder, but that reinforces my point which is it is not the level of sound volume, but rather the deeper rumble of the Stang which gives a more guttural resonance. This strikes the ears as being the biggest, most powerful engine. Perhaps you could explain it to me. Why can't the Vette sound as powerful as the Mustang? Is it due to our more restrictive cats?
