Default Trade in values

Just wanted to check with everyone here what they use as a measure for trade in value. Are you using black book, comparisons to estimate from car max, percentage of what like cars sell at in your local area, etc... or all the above.

edmunds.com, if used correctly, will provide three values:

private-party sale; dealer trade-in; dealer retail.

Sometimes need to average the three...but there is some subjectivity.

Edmunds by far has the most accurate and current values.

KBB is owned by AutoTrader and NADA is owned by the auto dealers association and they both tend to be about 10-15% higher than real world actual sales values.

Take about 10-20% off the Edmunds trade in price and that is what you can expect to get. Most dealers will just give you the auction value of the car even if they plan on selling it from their lot. Auction price guarantees them money.

Don't ever trade-in your car. You will get way more for it selling to a private party. Ya just gotta be patient.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. I checked edmonds and basically that is exactly what I asked for.

I really dont like to wait on the private sale. No patients

If you take the price that you would get on the trade in and take that versus the price if you sold out right, then you will have to subtract the differance of sales tax that you would have to pay.

I think you can go either way.
