Default Why I Back In

I don't know what the heck my problem is......but this is the reason I always back in when I park. Fortunately, I got about 1/16th inch of clearance this time!

You might want to think about picking up curb alert.

Works great.

I saw your thread right after I started mine. I feel for you. I wish I could say this was the only time for me.

Fortunately, my first nose damage was after hitting something on the road (don't know what...never saw it, but heard it)...came out after a breakfast burrito stop and saw this:

I jury rigged a double sided tape fix, and thought that would probably hold till I could do a fix of the missing body chunk with some epoxy. The very next morning I jammed the nose back into a curb and folded the trim piece it back under again.....that was the last time I parked nose in.

Fortunately, that black plastic trim is pretty easy to clean up with a razor blade!

Now I actively seek parking where I can back in, or drive through a spot to the other side. Unfortunately, this morning, the lot had no other options than nose in...and darn it, I almost paid the price again!

Same thing happened to me on the first Z06 I bought last year. The first night she was home from a 300 mile haul I take her out on the local roads. Not even 5 mins later I ran over some raccoon on the highway. End result looked just like your carnage. I was able to move the clip over and it looked good as new.

My 2nd Z06 is lower and I am scanning the road like a hawk everytime I drive now lol

I scraped mine the first week I got my GS. I was used to driving a SUV and I never had to think twice about parking curbs and concrete stops. My SUV (Lexus RX350) has a short hood and my GS has a long hood and it's low and I didn't realize how close I was to one of those concrete curbs and I scraped my gray plastic air dam. I luckily didn't do much damage since I stopped just in time, but it didn't occur to me how far out the front of the car was. I don't get close to those things now and I learned my lesson after the first encounter with the concrete curbs.

Yes we are low and when lowered you even have to be more careful.

As soon as I even start thinking how close I might be I stop, get out and check. Has worked 'almost' every time.

Try a little door edge molding along the bottom edge....saves the scraping and only costs about 8 bucks as compared to replacing the splitter.

I have curb alert and also think it's money well spent, BUT looking at his picture I don't think it would have helped. The units weak spot is angles to the side...

Just fixed mine this past weekend. Damage looked similar and piece was broken. (Torch red 2011 GS).Used sandpaper of med and fine grit to clean up the splitter. Used a toggle bolt as recommended by member a few months back, in the center spot. Had it all back together but could not get it tight as bolt was too long so had to take it back apart adt cut the toggle bolt down about 3/4". Nice and tight and looking right again.

After years of driving a C5 and getting feel for where to stop, I now find I stop about 2 1/2 feet a away with the C6. You ought to see how away I end up with my truck!

I find that stopping before I smash into a curb has been beneficial.
