Default Do you torque your oil pan bolt?

On your C6, after you drain the oil, and you put the plug back in the oil pan, do you use a torque wrench to tighten down the bolt? How many foot pounds do you torque it to? Or, how many foot pounds are you supposed to torque it to? Thanks.

Just get it tight enough so it will not back out. You don't have to put a 2' wrench on it and push 'till your nose bleeds.

I usually just hand tighten it and then snug it a little more if needed.
According to this guide in the FAQ it's 18lb/ft.

I just tighten it up until it's snug....I've never even thought about torquing it down to a spec.

I'm bad. I just tighten the plug and reuse the old seal. When I get to this point in the oil change procedure, I am home free. That is after I dump six plus quarts of used oil on the floor. I have spilled more oil than anyone else on the forum.

Those seals last a long time. I replaced mine after about 15 oil changes just because, but it was still in good shape.

I did once just to calibrate my arm. 18'# quoted above is correct. Best description is it is just snug. That's a steel plug in an aluminum pan. Get it at all snug and it isn't going to back out. You are far more likely to damage it by getting it too tight.

You're supposed to replace those seals?

Haven't done that on the past 7 cars I've owned either

Just snug it up good. 18 Ft lbs is not very much at all.

I always use a torque wrench. I'm afraid of stripping out the threads in the aluminum oil pan.
