Does the stereo have a built in type of a governor on the volume controls? I've noticed when listening to the stereo, when I turn the volume up, it seems to hit a point where it just doesn't get any louder. I could turn the volume **** 20 times to the right and it just doesn't get any louder. I was guessing it might have been some kind of feature to prevent blowing speakers. Is their such a thing, or does anyone else have this same effect where the volume seems to top out and no matter how much you turn the ****, it just doesn't get any louder?

Don't get me wrong, my stereo works. I can adjust the volume to just a whisper, or I can crank it up. I say crank it up loosely. I would have thought their would be a nicer sound system in a car that costs so much and with bose speakers. It's descent, but not as loud as I'd like. It gets the job done though, and that's fine.

I think you're just experiencing how weak the amplifier is. If you head down to the Audio & Electronics section of the forum you'll find many discussions about improvement options.

The volume **** is just an encoder wheel that sends its' signal to the cpu in the radio. So it really isn't a volume control as in the old days. The cpu gets the signal to turn up the volume but it will only turn it up so high.

It also makes a dfference as to what you are playing. Ie: Radio vs Cd vs downloaded MP3 files. I noticed mp3's I have burned onto a disc will not play as loud.

My question is how do you tell what level the volume is on? I'm not aware of any volume indicator that tells you?

I recently replaced my 6-disc Bose changer with the factory Nav system. There is a significant difference in the volume, the max volume on the 6-disc changer was higher than the max volume on the Nav.

I have the factory navigation system too. I'm glad it's not only me.

that would depend on the signal voltage coming out of each of these units, my guess is the nav has a lower signal output voltage since the amp is the same in both...

I have noticed that too. Factory made CDs seem to play the loudest in my car. The radio seems the weakest which may be related to signal strength.

Replace the speakers, add a sub and bypass the Bose amp with a good aftermarket one and the factory Nav kicks azz.

There is a volume level indicator on the Bose 6-disc changer/radio.

There is also an Auto Volume (and Auto EQ) feature but it sounds like your system is just running out of gas.

I don't have the 6 disc changer so I guess that's why I don't have a volume level indicator.

Put in new amps and the scenario changes completely. Bose sucks and must have cousins working at GM ...

I never seem to have any issue getting enough volume from my 08. Wonder why?

Umm..you know that black bar you see get bigger on the radio when you turn up the volume?

Umm no I don't because if you read my previous post I don't have the 6disc changer so as someone else posted in this thread there is no volume indicator unless you have that. Reading is your friend.
