If you wanted a new Corvette, but found you couldn't afford one. What other new car would you buy as a Vette alternative? Remember the key word "NEW". No used Vette answers please!

Keep what you have and keep saving . Or you might never be able to afford one. Fixing is always cheaper than buying new. And NOTHING will compare to a Vette in the $40K range, although there're many sporty RWD alternatives but not with a V8, like Nissan 370Z (V6), Hyundai Genesis coupe (V6 or Turbo I4), or the new subaru/Scion twins (I4)... if you must buy a new car. Even the cheapest BMW starts over 40 grand, and are crap without options. If you decide on a new one, make sure to check warranties and insurance rates too, especially if you're on a budget.
I'm like you, by the way; only buy new . But if you insist on spending the $40K now, I'd rather buy a pristine used C6 if that's what you really want, than something you're not going to be happy with. You can find pristine Vettes with hardly any miles, but try to buy from original owner. Only thing is it'd probably be without warranty, so leave a few grand for 'incidentals'. Good luck.

Your question isn't logical. If you really wanted a Corvette and had 40k you could get one, almost new. Otherwise you would be buying a new car just to buy one, and soon would not be happy with it.

I agree, if a 'vette was what you really wanted, I would think that a used 'vette is better than sacrificing and getting a new "lesser" car. I'd always rather buy what I want even if it's a couple years old vs. buying a "new" cheaper car for sake of having it "new". There is no "cheap" substitute as good as 'vette if it's a 'vette you want.

"In honor of jpee"
I'd go CTS or Mustang.

Mustang GT starts at 30,300 and Boss 302 at 42,200 to order where I live. Boss 302 starts a little higher then I thought.

I checked out the Infiniti AWD Coupe IPL (Infiniti Performance Line) and was fairly impressed. It had a really nice interior and some decent giddy up. It comes in coupe and hard top convertible.

Add a few options and taxes and you're at 40 grand with a GT man. And the Boss is automatically out of his range. Even if you find a no-option 'base' one at MSRP (unlikely), that'd be $45K with taxes. Most have the Recaro seat option plus nav, plus 'market adjustment' and you're looking at 50 grand before taxes. You could buy a nice new base Vette for that.

Daily driver or weekend fun car?
If it were to be used as a daily driver probably a new F-150. Weekend fun car, If they still made a little car like the Solstice, I think that would be a great inexpensive alternative. Not into foreign cars so not sure what I would get..........I would have to say used Vette.
Seriously, no other car I would want.
