Pretty much what everyone said above.

- First oil change at 1,000 miles.
- Follow the Oil Life Monitoring System, or change after one year (Which ever comes first)
- I always change at 50% life - Personal Preference.

Good luck!

New engine,I always change the oil at or around 1000 miles. You got assembly lube floating around in there, not to mention microscopic and bigger, metal chips from the machining process. The younger guys here will try to say there is no need to,they are just plain wrong IMO.After the initial oil change I never go more than 4000 miles between changes.I like the inside of my engine to stay as clean as possible.Changing your oil is a good thing, contrary to what others say.

What part of this is hard to understand?

compulsive oil changers are actually causing MORE engine wear than the people who let their engine's oil get some age on it.

There is NO need to change oil at 1000 miles.Engine assembly and oil is far superior then back in the 50's and 60's.If GM thought there would be any warranty issues by not changing the oil at 1000 miles you can bet they would recommend it!!

Not sure what your definition of "virtually no wear" is, but engines do wear. I had the oil analyzed in my 06 CTS-V (LS2 engine) while it was my daily driver from 06-09 (sold as a casualty of my move to DC).
Cadillac CTS-V Used Oil Analysis

Jun 07 sample was Mobil 1 5w30, the last three AMSOIL 0w30 (as they didn't make their best Signature Series in 5w30 - they do now). Wear metals are primarily Aluminum, copper, iron, lead.
