Talk to your GM engineering buddy again and ask him if the engine engineering group is ever going to look into the fact the LS3 engine has an oil leak issue with the oil pan/gasket. GM has paid dealerships lot's of coin to do warranty work to fix this oil pan leaking issue since the LS3's use in C6 Corvettes.
Or LS7 coupe? I would really consider trading in for one if it came true.
I doubt it....that would hurt the Z06 sales and besides the engineers do not want to compromise the rigidity with a detachable roof with the big powered engines.
Dave Hill got mad at me for asking him why they don't build a Z06 convertible!

I have a supercharged 560hp Vert and no problems with rigidity.

...putting the LS7 in either a GS vert or GS coupe (or both) for the 60th anniversary edition and final year of the C6
would be a marketing coup, IMO... combined with one or two non-current color choices from the C2/C3 era.
...this positioning would be "reminiscent" of the '66--'69 vert or coupe with its available "427" (and I know that was a
big block engine vs the LS3/LS7/LS9 which are all small blocks).
but semantics aside... the economy will still play a big part in how many units are sold...
the above combo would be worth the effort, though

I agree with you, especially when the C5 and C6's were designed as convertibles first! However, Mr. Hill thinks otherwise and he was the Corvette chief at the time!
Planning on selling and actually dealing in real numbers, usually are entirely different figures. I hope for GM that the latter is to their favor, this will however, require unique changes and market strategy...
The OP's comment about price reduction, although I really doubt will take place, would probably have the most effect on increasing sales for the final C6 model year. Any engine options, special edition models, etc. would certainly cost over and above their '12 counterparts and with the C7 even closer at that time I don't see how a significant sales increase would take place with that strategy. The "gotta haves" will buy some, but we're not talking 30,000 sales levels from that group. If it did, the intro sales of the C7 would be hurt by it as there are only so many who will upgrade one model year and take a larger than usual hit. Based on the significant $ investment GM is putting into BG the last thing they can afford is the C7 to be a slow mover. The economy will still be paramount to any sales uptick, whether there are changes for the final MY or not. Lots of speculation, to be sure...

If,and that's a BIG if,a 500+ H.P. camaro vert surfaces than so must a corvette!!!
Well, I have several close friends who work at GM, and here is what they tell me about the plans to increase sales of future C6 models:
1. Recognizing the popularity of the wide body they are coming out with a Super Grand Sport model featuring tandem rear wheels and rear fenders that bulge out another fifteen inches per side to envelope them.
2. Fender stripes will now be applied to all four fenders from the factory.
3. Not only will all engines be hand-built, but the new Bose radio will also be hand-built using vacuumn tubes.
4. "Corvette" lettering will not only emblazen the windshield, but the side windows, and rear window as well.
5. The car will be lower to the ground and feature roller skate wheels bolted direcly to the frame that will contact the road if the body leans more than 1/4 inch negotiating a turn, thus providing superior sports car handling.
6. Due to the overwhelming popularity of torque converter automatic transmission model Vettes, the Dyna-Flow transmission from 1953 Buicks will now become the only transmission offered. A large paddle shifter mounted off the side of the the steering column for easier access when negotiating curves will offer the choice of forward, reverse, park and neutral, so as not to overload the mental capacity and physical dexterity of most current drivers.
7. New paint choices will include black and white checkers to provide an alternative to taxi cab yellow, and powder puff pink as an alternative to Carlisle powder puff blue.
8. All lights will be blackened out, and a hand-held flashlight provided for anyone driving after curfew.
More details to follow .....
