Chrysler was a rip when I replaced a key with a chip.

I went to locksmith in Katy,TX and they cut me a key for around $6 to $8. It's the black plastic key that looks just like my factory key, it does not have the CHEVY logo.

Maybe the shops will have one of these:

Curtis B-106
Ilco P1115
Ilco EZ B106
Jet B109
JMA GM-37
Strattec 599487

They are the same, just different companies making them.

Sounds pretty cheap to me. The extra key for my 2008 Impala SS was $75.00. And the FOB with the auto start was around $250.00........

Got p!ssed and ordered the genuine GM fob blank from Fichtners with my next batch of parts, not $48 but more than a hardware store blank. Dealer cut if for free, now hidden outside my car.

A major PITA for what should be a simple purchase.
PITA is correct
I should have specified my car is a 09 C6
Perhaps 09 and up requires the GM key and wont work with a B106 blank?
Anyone able to get a duplicate made with a blank for a 09 and up?
Does the 08 and below have the same type FOB a 09 has where the key slides up inside the FOB?

A few years ago , I bought a saturn blank and had it cut to my vette key. The saturn key is nice and flat(like the old normal keys) and fits inside my wallet.

Is your car 09 or up?

The 2005-2007(?) fob was different, and the key was not contained in the fob. However, the fobs are electrically identical- we kept the third fob from our 2006 and programmed it as the third fob for our 2009. People say the fobs even work in the glove box slot regardless of year, if properly trained.

Darn it, Bob. I paid $2.89 at Ace Hardware for my extra key. An entire dollar more than Walmart.

The extra dollar was worth not dealing with a walmart parking lot. So, you are ahead of the game.

I usually try to avoid the dealership when buying small generic type parts. The last couple of times I went in they needed my VIN before they could look up anything. My question is why does the Parts Dept need my VIN before they look up a part. Thanks...

Your VIN will tell them if the car was made before or after some mid-year production changes. More importantly, they can look up and see what options are on your car; magnetic ride suspension also gives different brakes, etc. Helps them to order the right parts for you.

The only reason I went to the dealer was because I had already been several other places. Hardware store, Lowes, Wal Mart, and I was near the dealer after leaving Lowes. I figured the dealer would be expensive but never dreamed that expensive.

I will try the local locksmith shop next week and see if they can help me out.

Thanks again.
