Spare Key $48.00 plus tax from GM Dealer,Are You Kidding Me?
Just left the local GM Dealership a few minutes ago. The parts guy seemed offended when I told him that the duplicate key should be a B 106 blank(he said he would be glad to order the key for me) and of course I said you have got to be kidding me when he told me it was $48.00 plus tax. He said he thought it was precut was why it was so expensive.
Am I crazyor is he crazy? Is a duplicate key really going to cost that much?
I have been to numerous harware/home improvement stores and so far have found no %$#@!*& B106 blanks.
Where can I get a B106 blank and get a key duplicated?
Thanks for any help or tips

I would think that is a lot, since it is not a "chip" key but I don't know, it has been a while since I ordered a key from a dealership. I do know they were upwards of $100 from Chrysler because of the "chip".

They don't fit in the key vise very well, make sure you get someone that is good cutting keys to do it..

From what I recall from previous postings here: a Saturn key of some type is going to be correct. I would just go to a "locksmith shop" and see what they can do. Something tells me that the key blank is about $6.

^^^^^ This. You can find the black at ACE or a locksmith. NOT at the big box store. After I had the key the dealer cut it for free. Actually 3 of them.

So there you have it, it is only around $6 for the key and the other $42 is for the "official GM" part of the key.

The $42 key is the one that fits in the 2008 and up fob...it is not a regular B-106 key blank. A large Ace or True Value with a service desk will have the B-106 blank.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH!!!!!!!
I tried to make him understand that all I wanted was a duplicate key made which would use the b106 blank....Not the one that went in the FOB.
Thanks guys I will find a ACE hardware
Picture "Larry David" episode about trying to get a key duplicated

Well, the wife of someone I know lost the key and fob to her Camaro and the dealer quoted $120 - $150 (including programming). Not sure what "they" are going to do. But, if it's just the key, that might be a little high.

2009 C6:
Tried all the local hardware stores, no one had a B106 or any blank that matched our fob key. Finally found a locksmith with a B106, he cut the key and it didn't begin to work, wouldn't even go in the cylinder properly.
Got p!ssed and ordered the genuine GM fob blank from Fichtners with my next batch of parts, not $48 but more than a hardware store blank. Dealer cut if for free, now hidden outside my car.
A major PITA for what should be a simple purchase.

The sailing dealer for my 08 couldn't find the second FOB after I signed on the dotted line and was ready to leave. So I had to pick up one before leaving and the dealer wouldn't throw it in.........so yes I paid for key and FOB. $48 for key and $120 for FOB and I'm more than a little putout. "Hard to cut key because it won't fit in the cutter", is what the counter help said. Then didn't know when they would have time to program. Had my money and the games had started. Lucky for me the Service Manager got wind of what i was going through and moved me infront of everyone and pulled there best Vette tech to program it. She saved the entire deal because I was getting ready to walk. I an understand the FOB cost but not the key, another one of our "CORVETTE" perks.

I just had to buy a key for my Range Rover (my DD) - they are laser cut at the factory and the chip - which is a one-time program is shipped from Germany specifically programmed for the car. They are on national backorder, have no idea when I will see the key (need it to get a remote start installed) - all that for the bargain price of $220! and it's just going to be taken apart by the aftermarket guys to pull the chip out for the remote start. Can't buy just the chip, and if you find an used one online, they're worthless, the chip can never be reprogrammed, not even at the dealership! This whole car key thing is way out of hand.

I purchased my two cut B-106 keys from a locksmith shop for $3.20 each. They have many more different key blanks in stock then your typical hardware store.
