Is top speed of Grand Sport 186 MPH?

The web site below lists GS top speed as 186 MPH, and as far as I remember, Car and Driver also listed it as 186 MPH; is this correct? I remember a debate here at the forum where the top speed of the GS models was not listed in GM's own Corvette brochures...

the limiting factor there is driver's skill level. most people can't really utilize the full potential of the base car, no matter how great they "think" they are it's funny how the GS, Z06 and ZR1 owners dish out the extra money for something they will never ever utilize... but that wide bootie sure looks awesome

"The engineers worked their tails off to make the C6 and inch narrower than the C5 and now everyone is making their C6's wider.
The NEW C7 will be a foot wider."
Actually the C6 is .200" wider across the front fenders then the C5 and 1.4" taller, but the C6 is 1" narrower across the rear fenders.
To get the total areo drag, you multiply the car's frontal area times the Cd.
C5----.29 Cd X 20.7 sq ft(frontal area) = 6.003 CDA.
C6----.286 Cd X 21.0 sq ft(frontal area) = 6.006 CDA.
In an independent test in a North Carolina wind tunnel that is used by the NASCAR teams, some interesting Cd's popped up on the various generations of Corvettes.
A base C5 coupe measured at .334 Cd.
A base C6 coupe measured at .343 Cd.
A base C6 vert measured at .359 Cd
Not exactly what GM says.
With those Cd's the C5 has a 6.914 CDA and the C6 has a 7.203 CDA.
They also measured a C5 Z06 but not a C6 Z06.

This statement makes sense.

Chevy / GM
It has been apparent for some time now that Chevrolet/GM is pretty much lacking when it comes to the Corvette. I hope the C7 changes my thinking. It appears they have done the same thing on the Volt. Its a very nice car but way over priced. The other day I saw where the Volt was picked as the Loser Of The Year by some group or organization. Many Volts are sitting in Inventory on dealer lots and they just are not selling. 35k or 45K for when we can spend 20K in a proven Prius. Chevy/GM is just not giving us what we want. That is very clear with what was offered in the 2011 and 2012 Corvette models. The really dark theme and cramming the Navigation down our throats on the 3LT stinks along with taking the Sport Seats away from the 2LT and then not even mentioning it. If they want the youth market then good luck to them. But most of them cant afford a new Corvette. If they want the older folks who can afford the Corvette then they better change their thinking. I am happy to see them in trying to obtain the youth market as an option but not making the youth market goal the goal for the rest of the people in my age group. They only give us what ==THEY== want us to have and I for one am very tired of it. The latest 2013 announcement of no 427 in the Coupe simply continues along the same path. Well, Sorry for Ranting, So, I will now jump down off the Podium...

Why should the GS/Z06 read 0.4 Cd? The Chrysler 300C measures .35 Cd and it's a shoebox.
Who knows how accurate the Cd's are from GM's marketing dept.
The Volt concept show car had a .343 Cd but the production car is rated at .29Cd(by GM).

When I'm doing 145-150 MPH through turn 2 at Talledaga and then going WOT halfway in the turn and running wide open down the 4,000' long backstretch and then braking hard to enter turn 3, what parts of my Z06 am I not utilizing. Oh, I know...I didn't use my left turn signal..

Did I say "EVERY" Z06 owner? Didn't I specify "MOST"? yes or no?

I've only got 2200+ feet of straight away at Inde which limits me to around 125-135, but Firebird's Main track includes the dragstrip (including shutdown area) plus an additional 1000' (IIRC)....good enough for 150-160

I don't see the word "most" in the complete sentence I quoted from you above....unless you post in incomplete sentences or without punctuation.
Your exact quote was "it's funny how the GS, Z06 and ZR1 owners dish out the extra money for something they will never ever utilize".
That looks all inclusive to me, right ?

Got you covered buddy. The Cd with the headlights up on the C5 coupe measured .372. Want to know what it measured with two passengers in the car?
