Default ZR1 v. Z06

What's the difference between a fully loaded ZR1 and a Z06 (same year, also fully loaded), beside the engine and price?

If the cars were identical except for the engines, one might be better off starting with the Z06 and building up a great engine, from the bottom up, with FI of some kind.

But if the ZR1 has features not available on the Z06, maybe not.

There are a lot of differences, but I will just talk of one...........how about 5 years of warranty for that 638 hp!

Factory horsepower is always better. Especially for that 5 yr warranty Racer mentioned.

You can get a Z with the same suspension and brakes as the ZR.

You just can't get the glorious LS9 in the Z. So diff comes down the engine (if comparing Z07 to ZR).

No need to mod the ZR; but if you're the modding type, you can get more reliable power out of the ZR for small $ relative to the LS7.

Have you tried the Chevrolet Corvette site? It will inform you of the basics.

Zr1 has better ash trays and there's no after market kit for them.

Resale value.
You'll get your money back on the ZR1 (proportionally), and lose your a$$ on a modded Z06.
Plus, at car shows, both are in the same category (wide body C6's), and the ZR1's take home the hardware

OnPoint, you wrote: " you can get more reliable power out of the ZR for small $ relative to the LS7."

Is your point that you pay less for extra ponies in the ZR? I sorta doubt this'd be true if you took original cost into account.

Good points, though, about retained value. It might be that one could make a few reversible changes to the ZR and get maybe comparable power to the Z0. If so, one could restore the ZR to "stock" condition when it came time to sell.

Of course, the chrome plated body panels might be a tipoff...

And Racer wrote, "KABOOM!!! " That's about what happened to me when I took in his avatar!

I appreciate the input.

Which instantly voids your warranty and drops your resale value below the ZR1 to boot. All and all, that triples the cost of your turbo kit.

I wasn't using acquisition costs. Just costs of mods. One can get a ZR to low/mid 700hp for just a few thousand with excellent durability/reliability. Tougher (more expensive) to do that with the LS7.

I mentioned that in case OP is into modding, as some folks are (I myself had a modded Z).

Obviously modding either one tosses the bulk of the drivetrain warranty. So stock to stock, you get more car with the ZR. And if you mod, you still get more car for a comparatively smaller mod investment, and with a more robust engine.

All that said, we're talking about the two best vettes ever made. Pretty tough to go wrong either way.

I'd say pass on a new one of either! With one C-7 coming out!
If you want faster you have to modify either one.

Who mentioned modded? You lose your *** on a Zr1 just as bad as
A Z-06. Depends on how much you paid!

The OP did. Read his post. He's modding the Z06 to get equivalent HP as the ZR1.
Duh.

ALL cars lose value and fast,........from Lambo's to Kia's, prove I'm wrong and I'll send a prize. Z06 can be made fast.....real fast but do you sacrifice driveability?? Probably. ZR1 starts with better platform and has more potential for sure. Holds value better ?.....hell no! Both are lousy as investments so just enjoy them and with whatever route you go with on the mods.
