OK. But I still watch the show. And I still wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in who drives them or their opinions.....

They usually use a former F1 driver or someone in that caliber for the timed runs. The identity of the former Stig was revealed a short time ago. The times are actually very respectible; much more so than any other show I've ever seen.

I don't know about laptimes, but when they compared the Audi R8(10?) to the ZR1, they chose the ZR1 because it was more fun. The fact that it was all over the place on their test track didn't seem to bother them. I felt it was pretty sad that the ZR1 was such a handful to drive while the Audi just powered through the turns. It was a real handful.

You missed it big time!

I'm really surprised to read here that JC bought a Corvette. He really hated it every time I saw him, but I guess the performance won him over.

Of course, remember that he also bought a Ford GT and had so much trouble with it (mostly the alarm system) that they (Ford) bought it back from him within weeks. Not a sterling recommendation.

Default And more...

Here's more about Clarkson and the ZR-1:

http://jalopnik.com/5060514/jeremy-c...ter-three-days

However, despite extensive searching, I could find no reference other than a few obscure forum postings (like this one) that said that Clarkson had actually purchased a Corvette of any type.

I don't think he did. Or would.

Top Gear UK is the best show on TV -- I absolutely love it. Because they don't hold back in their criticism of bad cars, you know that whenever they praise a car they mean it. They did have some fair criticism for the Vettes (leaf springs?). Watch the comparison they do between the ZR1 and the Audi R8. They do say that the R8 is the better car, but there's no joy in it, and it's more than twice the price. "You'd have to be bonkers to buy the Corvette, and that is why you should." Bottom line is that Clarkson did buy a ZR1 and that puts it into elite company.

I did that already. (Post #19) But I also remember Jeremy Clarkson running down the Corvette only because it had leaf springs and saying it was like an ox cart. Plus, he pushed in on the back bumper and made fun of it because it had a rubber back bumper. While Richard Hammond, who actually drove the car, liked it very much. So, I did apologize for my mistake about the leaderboard. But, since Richard Hammond disagreed with Jeremy Clarkson, I'll still say, I wouldn't believe everything you hear on the show. My statement stands.....

You guys that rely solely on BBC America for a Top Gear fix need to start "acquiring" the newer seasons on the web....

The ZR1/CTS/SRT8 episode is from a couple years ago already.

They have ALWAYS been a bit conflicted about American cars. They have a "party line" clearly established for the sake of humor....Americans are fat clueless idiots who can't make cars....

That SAID, it's very clear to anyone that follows TG closely that the insults are meant to be humorous and generally benevolent. It's a good-natured rivalry more than anything else.

Hammond and Clarkson have both owned SEVERAL American-made performance cars. They know everyone is aware of this and they still sporadically insult them.

May is a pedantic fop at times and I don't think he really concerns himself with American cars.

That's what Jeremy said, but when the Stig drove the cars around the track, it was the Audi that was a handful and the ZR1 that went around more smoothly...and of course, faster too.

Jeremy doesn't drive a car for lap times. He HOONS cars like he stole them and I think he was simply opining that the ZR1 was the easier car to wreck yourself in if you're not careful.
