Default How to remove excess 3M adhesive glue from dash?

Basically, got the "Corvette" fill-in from RPI designs for my dash. It wouldn't stick. Saw where someone had used the 3M adhesive glue for interiors. I tried it, sticks good but I had a little overrun in spots. This stuff is no joke getting off the excess so does anyone have any tricks?

I'm sure you've thought of this but 3M adhesive remover is the ticket!

I use a genral purpose adhisive remover from Lowes, Home Depot, or Ace. Works good and does not hurt the dash.

i would try an inconspicuous spot first. you dont know what an adhesive remover might do to the dash. just be carefull and let us know what product worked.and post a picture if possible as i wanted to do this also but chickened out for this very reason; getting glue overrun and then worrying how to get it off without discoloring the dash surface with a remover.

including maybe the dash finish. your right goo gone works great but it is pretty powerfull.i have it in my arsenal but i am very carefull with it and rub very gently at first to see what it does. i also try not to use it on a finish that looks like it might damage. now i dont want to sound stupid but is the dash of a c6(in my case 2012)vinyl or leather? if its vinyl its pretty thick and looks to be of quality. if its leather well then its leather. i cant really tell from the finish.

its def some sort of vinyl, and dont worry the goo gone wont do anything to the dash, ive used it multiple times on all sort of cars ranging from vinyl to leather dashes with no problem.

if you feel scared to try it on the dash, first try it on the bottom of the glovebox that way youll see that its completely fine. when your dont with the goo gone just go over it with a vinyl cleaner/conditioner

3M makes its own General Purpose Adhesive Remover,* but before you use that, here's a thought. 3M has probably one of the best tech/service lines on their toll free. go to the site, find the number, call them, get directed to the right dept. they'll either ans. your question right away re taking it off based on the material it's on, or get a tech to answer (or get the answer and call you back).

*3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover 08987-15 oz. spray" (safe on clear bra and clear coat) sold sometimes at auto stores, but most likely at Napa-type stores.

be very careful with any kind of remover - nail polish remover will prbbably take it off but I don't know what affect it will have on the dash

Start with the same type of alcohol swabs you used to clean and prep the dash for the letters.

If that doesn't work then I'd try the 3M remover that is specific for the type of glue you used.

Take the above advice and test it in an inconspicuous place first.

This whole thing has just been a pain. Tried goo gone. It looks better but still has overrun all over the place. I was picking a little with a toothpick and getting progress. Any ideas on something better to pick with? Its kinda like the glue is off, but there is a very thin layer that is still spotted, which is what im picking at, that i cant get off with the goo gone. Stupid thing should have stuck from the beginning, the quality was poor especially on the "C"

Better yet, what would you guys recommend to scrub with the goo gone? Been using a fairly smooth wash cloth, probably need to be more aggressive?
