I would like to suggest a different way to handle the C Clip that holds the recliner handle in place. If you notice the black arrow I aimed at the curved end of the clip you can use a screwdriver to push on that end and release the clip so the handle pulls off and the clip stays on the shaft. The two spirals at the end of the clip hold the handle in place and when you push on the closed end they spread apart and release the handle. No need to remove the clip and deform it in the process of pulling it from behind the handle.

Bill, you are going to have to take that clip off no matter how you do it. You cannot leave it on the shaft and take the seat apart.

I actually used a screwdriver to push mine off. Some have to use a hook too depending on which way they want to release the clip.

I just put new foam in my seat and was able to pull the seat apart without removing the clip. However, if the clip needs to be removed it is a lot easier to remove it after the handle is off.

Just curious, how in the world did you take off the plastic cover where the seat controls are located on the side of the seat without taking off that clip?

Bill, I think that I misunderstood what you were saying. You are talking about leaving the clip stuck IN THE HANDLE after you loosen it enough to pull it off. That you can do. Sorry.

But I will say that that clip pops off of that handle pretty easily.

Can you change the foam without doing that?
Yep. I put the seat reinforcement kit in my driver's seat last year. Had to remove the old foam then glue high density foam to the bottom of it and to the frame. Of course my driver's seat only has the power seat controls on the side and does not have the lumbar controls but I believe it fits over the recliner shaft the same way.

I modified my statement while you were writing this. See above.

EDIT: Bill, you are right. I reread what you were suggesting and it never occurred to me that you could push the clip further into the handle and the edges of the clip would slide far enough to release the clip. Now that I have thought about it, that is a good idea.

Sorry that I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

You're so right about that.

But then I would have missed out on all these mods. (ZR1 conversion, new sets, and new audio system) Where's the fun in that?

Believe me, I have learned a LOT about my car in the last 2 years.

Yes, the slits show a little on the top of the seat release cover. Not much I can do about that. It will not be noticed by 99% of people unless they are specifically looking for it.

Do I wish it was perfect, yes, but it doesn't really bother me because it isn't that easy to see when it is in the car. The slits are tucked in and they are MUCH more noticeable in a flashed photo.

I will probably us a grey marker to color the foam and it will be even harder to notice. Really, how many times have you looked at your seat release button? I never have, before now.

I think you may be refering to the problems reported in the Apsis thread, yes?
I didn't have any problems with padding at the back of the headrest, it looks perfect! Has anyone else had a problem with this?
Also I didn't have the problem of the slits showing like Randy has shown above.

Yes, I think it is just the luck of the draw as to whether you could have the 'slight' problem that I have on the release button fit. Also it could be attributed to the installer.............but I doubt it.

I'm not sure how good there Quality Control is down there in Mexico.

I also have a slight wrinkle in one seat on the front seat panel (only on the left half). I do believe that it is caused by how it was sewn. I may end up getting another one to replace it with and see if it is any better.

Randy,

Nice work. With your permission, I'd like to convert this to PDF and get it up on my website (with credit, of course).

Also, you don't need to remove the C clip to take the seat handle off. They are designed so that you can press up on them from the bottom with a flat blade tool or screwdriver and simply pull the seat handle off while pressing. It is a very easy operation. When you do this the clip stays with the handle.
