Default 2013 last year of the LS series motor

This might be old news that I figure has been hashed over a few times, but this is what I heard. Take it for what it's worth....hearsay.
Last night at our club meeting a friend told me...he was at a seminar where a GM engineer was the guest speaker. The engineer said that 2013 would be the last year for the LS engines. No more LS3, LS7, or LS9's.
First time I've heard it. If the info is correct....probably going with something smaller and supercharged.

Does seem an odd statement. The LS series engines are designed around a 4.4" bore spacing that's been around since 1955 and it's easy to make smaller displacement engines, and superchargers are nothing new. Remember that they started out at 265 cu in.

Now if they are thinking of a smaller bore spacing, say 4.125" or 4.00" and then make the block out of high strength compacted graphite iron, then I could see that. Because of the very high strength, they can physically make the engine much smaller, saving weight, while running high boost superchargers, because of the CGI strength. CGI has been used in small diesel engines for several years.

we will know more in about a year or so. maybe they'll call it, whatever "it" is, an LT engine. then, they'll have to change the package options to something like "1LS, 2LS, etc."

is that the old switcheroo of don aka maxwell smart days, or what?

I think the original LT-1 was in the C3.

I think I read somewhere that the new Gen V smallblock from Chevy will be designated LT(plus some suffix).

Won't be long and we'll all know what Gen V will be called.

I think they are working on solar panels for the C8.

Back on subject:

Wouldnt be surprised to see the LS moniker disappear. After all its a continuation of the LS1 and LS6 we saw in the C5. The engine in the C7 is expected to be more revolution, less evolution.. definitely next generation. Its expected to be smaller (reversing the current trend), direct fuel injection, higher compression ratio, variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation and stop/start. All of these are features that will dramatically increase power and/or gas milage.

Would be a surprise to see it get called the LZ1 or something of the sort.
Nothing on your list is revolutionary, all are current technology.

It's still a 4.4 bore spacing so the block size for a V8/6 will remain about the same. VVT is already on most of the motors from GM with DI on 4/6s. There is only so much you can do with the block design. So unless the V8 goes DOHC, which I doubt, calling VVT and DI evolutionary is a stretch.

Variable valve timing and DBW TBs have pretty much killed cylinder deactivation as a fuel saving means.

And yea, O sucks ....

Hearsay means nothing. The development cost for the LS series was paid long ago. If they can stuff it into the new car I have a feeling it will still be there.

Like the LS is a bad thing? I believe the LS series is exceptionally good but believe Gen V is due. Smaller displacement, more horsepower.

the LS2, LS3, LS7 & LS9 us connected at the hip with the C6. The C7 should have it own engine moniker.

Brand new engine technology, like anything else, can be troublesome . .
If there is a new engine series perhaps they should be PMS1, PMS2, PMS3

The General Motors Tonawanda, NY engine plant is currently undergoing an $825 million makeover in preparation for the production of The General’s two vital next-generation engine lines in the years to come. From what we gather, the next line of V8 engines will feature direct-injection (like the 2.4 liter ECOTEC motor) and an “advanced combustion system”. However, new technology for the ECOTEC four-bangers remains under wraps.
